Deal Details

I just spoke with a CSR at Dishnetwork.com and verified that as of February 1, 2012, the price of the sling adapter was dropped from $99.00 to $30.00. This change in price is permanent and is available now. This is a great price if you have been waiting to purchase one, or if you didn't get in on the free with rebate in 2011.

The Dish Sling adapter is only for the Model 722 Dish receiver.

For viewing movies from Dish Online On Demand in HD a 3 Meg. download speed is required.

For viewing HD through your receiver remotely, including recorded shows, a 3 Meg upload speed is also required (rare). <--3 mb upload is "rare"?

Great find. I bought one on ebay for around $70 last month. Easy setup, works great but the sling applet murders my computer on resources. I have a Dell XPS L1702X with 2720QM i7, 8GB RAM, 500GB Seagate 7200RPM Hybrid drive with SSD caching, 3GB Nvidia video card and even using Chrome, it slaughters my system.

What Sling applet? Just the browser plug-in when you go to dishonline.com?
I use it on a few PCs that are nowhere NEAR the specs you just listed and it works fine. It takes a while to change channels, etc., but I think a big part of that is that it's going to Dishonline, and NOT using your internal home network. A regular Sling adapter would just use your home network. A real Slingbox would use Sling Player, and use your home network. This is NOT A SLINGBOX!! Sling Player will not work with this adapter. This sends the TV show from your Dish box to dishonline.com and then back to your PC. Even if both the Sling Adapter & PC are hard-wired to the same router. I use this when I travel, but it's a little painful to use in the same house. I bought it hoping it would turn my PC in another room into another Dish box. It doesn't. It's far too slow to use for that. It's good to pick 1 channel to watch for a long time. I've had it since July, and I found that I don't use it nearly as often as I thought i would. The thing I use it for most is to schedule my DVR to record something when I'm away from home.

applet such as flash, java, quicktime or whatever they use (I think it's flash) I have a gadget that shows all my cores and RAM so I see the spike that way.

Dish should build an App like Netflix Apps, So it works out of the box on Newer smarter TVs.

That's the App to watch your Dish Programming (Once you connect the sling adapter to compatible Dish STB) on iPhone/Ipad. What I am saying like to watch your Netflix Subs. you don't need to play the Netflix content on PC/Mac and then connect PC/Mac to watch on TV, there is Netflix Apps available on most of Newer Smart TV, similarly Dish should build an App for Dish programming.

Is there a monthly fee to this or extension to contract.

Sorry if this is obvious, but can you connect the sling adapter to a non dishnetwork DVR? Thanks.

I have the same question....is there a monthly fee for this? If not, I'll be getting one tonight.

I called the CSR and got it for free. Charged 99 dollars and 99 rebate with needs to be done online . The rebate was also easy to do. No submissins just connected my sling adapter and it appeared in my account.

They had this FAR a while ago. The rebate had a weird timeline where you could only submit the rebate after 60 days but before 90 days (or something like that). I called the CSR and he agreed to even waive the upfront $99 cost. So I just got the device for free. BTW, I was out of dish network contract for a while.

Call me oldschool, but I didn't even know you could do this. So I can watch my DVR recordings from my droid? Does it destroy the battery life on smartphones?
