![]() honestly i think it was a shock to most people, i too thought it was long abandoned, and then the i got a popup about an update. im not sure what exactly you are trying to do with yours... amazon, netflix, pandora, shoutcast, web browser (even tho its slow and clunky), weather, ip cam viewer.... OH YAH and its an alarm clock. what else do you need? i wouldnt pay this price, unless you were already buying an expensive alarm clock, or you really need the above features at your bedside. i paid around $40 and was happy with the purchase. one thing to note, the internal speakers are TERRIBLE. buy some little usb powered speakers and hook the audio and usb outputs on the sony to the speakers. -anything- you use will be a huge improvement. The problem with this is you can't use it as a mission-critical device. I tried using it as an alarm clock to stream Pandora and it failed too many times. It either loses network connection or crashes. As a simple (albeit extremely slow) network device, it's passable. Like folks say, the sound is terrible.
I got one by using my Sony points and it bricked shortly thereafter. I was sent a refurb that worked fine until I finally gave up on trying to get it to do what I wanted it to do. The other problems were with the software and all of us begging Sony to make small changes that would have been huge improvements to the user experience. They have a small support forum on the Sony site. You can go there and commiserate with fellow users. |

How do these function as an alarm clock? At $70, I am considering this as a replacement for my bedside alarm clock, though I doubt I will use any of the internet features.
Also, can these be hacked to run the standard Chumby OS? Is Chumby also discontinuing support? |

I use a rocketfish usb networking adapter made for a nintendo wii system and it works great! anything based on the ASIX AX88772 chipset (among others) should work. connect it to the side usb port, reboot the dash and tell it to use the wired interface when it asks. this may solve your problems. |

or perhaps consider a chumby, or something like the insignia model that runs the chumby OS. a little cleaner than the sony UI but you lose the licensed streaming support. |
