Radeon 6670 vs 4870 performance comparison
I'm looking for a graphics card for a family member who is an occasional gamer. I am not on a very high budget, so looking on the budget range.I'm getting radeon 4870 512MB GDDR5 and 6670 1GB GDDR3 both for $65. Which one I should choose? It isn't an obvious question as it seems on being 6670 the newer card, I've did a quick comparison some benchmarks and found in guru3d benchmarks of 6670, the 4870 is faster than it.. http://www.guru3d.com/article/rad...0-review/4 So what you guys advice, should I stick with the newer card or buy the older flagship ? I'm specifically looking, if the card can handle just cause 2 on phenom X3 720 CPU with 4GB RAM @ 1280*1024 resolution & 4x AA at high details ? Also do any new games have mandatory DX11 hardware requirement or all of them run fine on DX10/10.1 hardware ? Also I can't buy any nvidia card as I need surround view feature of AMD.. |

Just Cause 2 is a pretty intensive game. Though that resolution is pretty low, I could see an upgrade in monitor in the future considering LCDs are so cheap these days...I'd say definitely go with the 4870 if it's still in stock.
4870 doesn't have Eyefinity and only can support two screens. You could get two video cards to run 3-4 screens for non-gaming purposes (i.e., 2D use) but when you're gaming, it won't appear as one continuous screen. I wouldn't worry too much about DX11...don't see a game being exclusively DX11 for a long time. Last edited by bubbachuck; 02-06-2012 at 06:13 AM.. GO DUKE!
Pro tip: when you buy a Steam game and don't plan on playing it right away, store it in your inventory instead to keep your options open because it's worthless once it's tied to your account Amazon pricing algorithm investigated [michaeleisen.org] Find out your PSU's real manufacturer [hardwaresecrets.com] | More than you care to know about PS3 hardware... Going with Bubba. As long as you don't mind missing out on the stuff like Eyefinity, the 4870 will do better performance wise. And DX11 isn't something to worry about too extensively. The only game I have that needs DX11 for anything is Battlefield 3 on Ultra. (I can only play it on low so it doesn't matter to me
