What happened man? Samsung used to be a solid bet. Now I have a Gtab I want to flush and Galaxy S that is yet again in need of repair.

Not going to TD, because don't have a good knowledge when it comes to this particular device, but I find Samsung has gone to the poop pile. Would recommend some serious research before forking over this kind of cash on a Samsung.

I had a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 that I got from Woot for $175. It's basically like the big brother model of this.

It was a pretty good device, but relatively antiquated in terms of hardware (a 1 GHz single core processor and only 512 mb of RAM).

I would say it's fine as a basic device to surf the web, watch movies and listen to music. It also has GPS built-in, which adds some value to it.

Finally, it has a microSD card slot to add storage for music & movies. This is cool, but rather limited by the fact that most space-consuming applications (GPS) don't allow SD installation.

This is the closest thing to an iPod Touch with Android (2.3) on it.

I will probably still use my ipod classic for most of my music playing but this seems like a neat toy with good features at this price point. Also I hear the 4.0 has a better screen but the 5.0 has better battery life.

The 5.0 is upgradeable to gingerbread, so I don't see why this one wouldn't be upgradeable. In fact, I thought that the US galaxy players come with gingerbread by default.

Yeah, it's upgradable to Gingerbread. It should come stock with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). If it doesn't, install Samsung Kies and it will update to it.

I had the Galaxy Player 5.0 WiFi and the best case for it was the TPU Gel Case. It fit like a glove and provided a lot of protection.

The 4.0 model seems to have pretty limited case options.

The Galaxy Player 4.0 WiFi US Edition (XAA model) comes with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread.

The TRU product information is dated.

The Galaxy Player was originally supposed to come with 2.2 and then later be updated to 2.3. However, due to the Apple lawsuits it was pushed back several times in the U.S.

The TRU page does correctly list the UPC: 635753495362, under "Additional Info".

That UPC corresponds to Samsung Model #: YP-G1CWY/XAA.
