Looks like a good price. I have the older models (WD TV Live and WD TV Live Plus). They have always been good devices. Looks like this model can also be controlled via iPhone (maybe android too). WD players play nearly ever type of video format.
Only drawback is no Amazon Video On Demand (Instant Video) if that is important to you. I'm kind of holding out at the moment for the VAP430 (Vizio's soon to release streamer) to give that a try. |

And most of the posts you're linking to are for the WDTV Live Plus (old version). This post is for the newest version, the WD TV Live Streaming (3gen). And just a note for anyone still using the old Plus versions - here are the simple fixes for any networking woes: 1) static IP them 2) for wifi, be sure your network is named WORKGROUP Slickest Deals (so far) $13.00 FX Lightsaber ..and a FREE 500GB / 32MB WD hard drive (thanks PricePros!)

Another trick for anyone using the older WDTV units:
Forget about using shared folders all together. It's kind of a hacky solution. Setup a DLNA server (For Mac, I use Serviio or PS3 media server). This is a specific protocol designed for home theater streaming. It never stutters and always connects. |

I got this and it works very well. It can play 100% of the MKVs I throw at it. It's so convenient that my HTPC has sat unused since I got this. I also had the older version and this one has a much faster CPU, netflix app loads a lot faster and the UI is more responsive in general. Great deal!
