Exactly...movie tickets have a very limited coverage, atleast in my area (boston, mass)...all major theaters like amc, regal they don't sell..only smaller ones..before buying check for coverage first..

Where did you read about the service charge? Regardless of 2D or 3D, this is $12 saving. Anything extra you want to buy is up to you.

I live in a town of 300,000 people and several movie theaters, and none of them appear on movietickets.com

there's a $1 service charge per ticket when you'll buy the tickets. Most tickets here in S.Florida are around $7.50 even for a matinee, and $9.50 for night, plus $1 service charge on each of the two tickets, so i guess you're right, if you going to a regular movie, you're good but 3D you better be prepared to shell out few extra bucks.
