Why is the USA not involved in Syria?
So why help liberate other countries but not this one? I'm pretty sure the people of Syria would welcome the USA rolling in, unlike certain countries.... |

Syria is one of the last countries still run in a similar manner the Soviet Union ran. The people want more freedom, the gov will not have it. Prior to this, Assad had a fantastic relationship with the other regimes, deposed and otherwise regardless of the religious affiliation. PS Alwaites are not "Ethnically" different from the other Syrians. The lines drawn are religious ones. |

What is the religious difference between Assad and the protesters? |

The question is, why should we get involved in Syria? If we do it without the "approval" of the UN, then the rest of the world will just claim we're being imperialist Americans trying to take over the world. If we do wait for UN approval, half the population of the country will be dead at that point, and on the off-chance Assad is actually killed, the UN will voice more indignation at the death of a dictator than they did at the death of half a country. But at least we'll have gotten UN approval, which I'm sure will be enough for everyone who had family killed.
Should we morally? Absolutely. Should we, with consideration to the current state of world politics? Probably not. |
