Toys R Us has Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning for 44.99 free shipping

I'm about 9 hours into this on the PC, and it's been a lot of fun. Visually, it constantly reminds me of WoW, but from a control and combat standpoint, it's more like Fable or an over-the-shoulder Titan Quest/Torchlight. Definitely very action RPG as opposed to something like Skyrim. Also, while it is open world, it's a very confined open world, with fairly strict pathing through areas.

There is no jump function, which the developers say the game doesn't need, there are "jump points" in the world to move between layers in the environment, and that helps, but there have been times when I've had to work my way around a ridge to get below because there wasn't one. Also, not being able to jump a bit in a 3rd person action RPG seems kind of like a missed opportunity when it comes to pulling off some cool moves in a fight.

A lot of the side quests are fetch quests, I've also come across a few "collect x number of x" quests, which just shows how dedicated they are to this franchise moving into an MMO space in the future, which they've made no secret about. You can see it in enemy battles, too. Sometimes I'm fighting an enemy, and I move away from his spawn spot enough that he'll just stop attacking and head back to where he spawned. It's weird, and they should fix that.

All this being said, I paid $51 for the PC version on Amazon, and I'm not unhappy that I did. the game has a good atmosphere, and the faction and main quest lines seem fairly interesting. The map is a pretty big, so I imagine there's a lot to do.

Yeah, I rented it yesterday and enjoy it enough so far to go buy it.

My Toys R Us didn't even have it on the shelf for Xbox, they had it for PS3 on the shelf but it was still marked 59.99. I did however manage to get Walmart to price match. I just told them Toys R Us has this for 44.99 and they did it.

He funded it, he founded 38 Studios, which bought Big Huge Games from THQ awhile back and took over development. Schilling is also a big gamer.

RA Salvatore wrote a lot of the story, and Ken Rolston, lead designer for Oblivion, is the lead on Amalur. Todd MacFarlane designed a lot of the artwork.

Too bad the PS3 version is OOS online. Now you have to pay $5 more in the store and you're forced to take a $10 gift card for TRU.

The $10 GC isn't for Amalur on what I've seen, just Darkness 2 and Revelations (3ds)

Mine had it marked for $60. I am hoping Gamestop has it cheaper than $50 soon as I have some gift cards.

U can call up Best Buy cust service and have them do a price match. Just worked for me .. They call a local TRU in ur area and as long as they have it in stock they'll PM right over the phone. I was able to use a RZ $5 certificate and a $10 e-gift card to get the game down to $30 + tax but with f/s. Pretty good deal
