No maintenance fee transponder from FAST LANE - EZ-Pass

Why not sign up with NY and link your account with a credit card for auto-recharge and pay no maintenance fee? And, free transponder as well.

My brother found out the reason why some of us NY'ers are charged the $1 fee and some that aren't. My brother's does not have the $1 monthly fee to his account (he also lives in NY). On the front of his EZpass tag says "property of Triborough authority". My EZpass tag says "property of Port authority".

He did some research, and says three companies owns the EZpass system. So the only company that does not charge the fee is the ones issued by the Triborough. However, I do not know how he obtained that one. Please share if you know.

Not true. I live in NY, paid with a credit card, there is always been a $1/mo fee.
Same thing with my friends and my brother. We had our EZ-pass for the past 5-10 years.
We didn't even ask for paper statements. So not sure why some of you have no fee.

I used it maybe 5-6 times a year. The only benefit I saw in my EZ-Pass is the "car pool" feature to cross the Hudson River. It used to be $1 (regular price was $6). Now we're paying $3.50 (reg. price is now $12).

Hm, interesting. Does your brother's EZPass has "car pool" feature?
If so, I am going to try to see if I can switch my to "Triborough authority".

maint fees must be a NYC thing. I have not used my pass for 2 months and my balance is unchanged. I have also never seen a fee beyond the tolls.

I think when I signed up way back when there was a "thruway plan" for upstaters that didn't include nyc garbage.

I just went back over a year of statements to make sure (I don't use my pass much anymore - was gonna cancel if there are fees) and no fees anywhere.

I got mine from throughway authority (off 287 in rockland county) 14 years ago, and never paid a monthly fee. I have 3 tags. So it appears it depends on where you get your tag.

i live in CT and tried to get a TBTA EZ-pass, but you don't have the option online (all three NY agencies use the same site, so we don't get to pick which one we get online).... i think the only way to guarantee that you'll get a TBTA pass is by physically going to the service center off the whitestone, or by having a mailing address in queens or LI.

either way, like others have said, i'd rather pay the extra $1/mo service fee and get the off-peak discount on the GWB that's only available with the PANYNJ tag.

I live in MD but bough my EZ-pass tranponder in NJ...i see a $1 fee every month on my account..i hardly use the EZ-pass but want to keep it if i can wave off that $1 fee...

Does MD charge you $1 fee? or is $1 fee charged irrespective of what state you are in?

MD charges $1.50/mo, I think. There is a fee of some amount, for sure. Supposedly, as a condition of raising all the tolls by crazy amounts, this was supposed to change.

This is why I live in Texas! Open roads, nice winters, bigger houses for less $$$, traffic isn't too bad, the cost of living is definitely lower, and there are almost no tolls (basically nickels and dimes).

In New York you basically get a prison cell for the price of a medium sized house almost anywhere else! 100 million might buy you a nice penthouse in NYC but anywhere else you can buy like two mansions with some left over!
