Thread Details

If you live in PA, NJ, NY, DE and pay EZ-Pass maintenance fees (~12/year), you can switch to FAST LANE and pay $0 maintenance.

FAST LANE works anywhere EZ-Pass works.

To sign up go to:

http://www.massdot.state.ma.us/hi...ignUp.aspx

Make sure to select Massachusetts when you accept Terms & Conditions. This way you don't get redirected to your state EZ pass website.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Mass DOT website [mtafastlane.com] states that FastLane will become EZ-Pass very shortly.
Name change, nothing else changes according to website!

For NYC:

Buy your E-ZPass On The Go at a local retailer like 7/11. There are no fees and you get discount on Port Authority bridges and tunnels. Your account can but does not have to be linked to a credit card. You pay $20 and you can use it instantly but your account has $10. Another $10 is credited to it when you link your credit card to it, which makes the transponder free.Correction>>E-ZPass-on-the-Go works like this: the customer purchases the pre-paid tag at the store and can use up to $20 to pay tolls immediately; $10 is a deposit on the tag. Once the tag has been used for the first time, the customer has two days (48 hours) to register the tag by going to the website www.ezpassny.com or calling a toll free number on the tag. If the tag is registered as an account linked to a credit card account, then the $10 deposit also becomes available for toll use. About 85% of E-ZPass users have accounts linked to their credit cards. If the tag is registered as an account to be paid by check or cash, then the $10 remains as a deposit for the tag.

I actually walked out of a store because they were saying it was $30 and the Wiki here said the cost was $20. They were not trying to rip me off for $10, whoever posted the original amt was incorrect. Total cost is $30 and you get the 10 back making it free after linking it to a cc card.

To find local retailers, go to http://www.ezpassonthego.com/

or http://www.mta.info/bandt/onthego...tions.html

or https://e-zpassny.com/en/onthego/locations.shtml

FYI. There are some discounts provided to EZPass users on some toll routes. Not all discounts are recognized by Fastlane transponders. Not sure if this is an option for everyone, but I had previously signed up for an EZPass Account in NH, and I do not pay service charges. I have both a Fastlane and EZPass transponder in my car and switch as needed.

There's a $1/month fee. You might want to check your statement.

WTF? There are bridges that are only $6.50? The freakin Verrazano is like $12! Not all bridges are equal. Mad
Maybe (and I am vaguely recalling and guessing - not sure) that's why I got my EZP from NY instead of NJ. And/or the reason was that NJ one required deposit.

I check my statements every month and have never been charged. :s

The other poster could be right too - if you use it, you don't pay a fee.

Anyone in PA try this yet? I only really use the PA turnpike and a couple other toll roads around New England and haven't gotten the EZPass because I think it's ridiculous to pay a fee for something that's saving the state money in the first place. But I digress. If someones successfully done this with FAST-LANE in PA, lemme know your experience.

yes, you can use Fast Lane in PA. no problems, however, if there's any discounts given for PA Tpke with a PA based EZ Pass, you'd NOT get the discounts. So you have to determine if the lack of maintainence fee is worth more than any potential toll savings. If you don't use it that often, than the Fast Lane program is a good solution for you.

True - and on top of that if you opt in to the carpool plan (free) and ever drive into some tunnels/ bridges with 3 or more human heads in the car (babies included), you get significant discounts. I think it's $3.50 now instead of regular $12 cash toll in Holland Tunnel. It used to be $2 instead of $8.
Yup I used to do carpool all the time when it was $1 on the HT and GWB. That was the good old days but what can you do.

been always $0/month or year with the Mass FastPass... been using it for a while...

but as other people say above, you may not qualify for discounts that your state EZPass might give you

If you signed up with MD, they'll charge you a monthly $1 fee no matter where you are from. I live in MD and switched to MA's Fast Lane when MD started the whole $1 fee.

There was such a huge uproar when MD started charging the fee. When I had called MD's EZ Pass to cancel my account, they had said that tens of thousands of people had called and requested the same thing. Once cancelled, they credit your account back with the remaining balance in several days.
Can you just go to the Massdot website and sign up for their EZpass regardless if you live there or not? I'm in MD too. I'd like to use EZ pass once in awhile to go on the ICC, but if I can avoid the maintenance fee every month, that'd be sweet.

I live in PA and previously had the MD EZ-Pass. When they started charging the fee, I returned the 4 transponders to them and signed up with VA version. No fee and no deposit for the transponders if you sign up for ACH and CC billing. Low balance is $10 x # of transponders and replenishment amount is $35 x # of transponders. No discounts in PA so no need to stick with a PA version if I'm saving on the fee already. It's used every day on 476 with no issues. https://www.ezpassva.com/

Granted I haven't checked the T&Cs lately so I'm going on my past experience signing up over 3 years ago. Hopefully nothing has changed and you can take advantage of it. The last time I was in NY, I think I also got a discount at one of the tunnels or tolls. I can't remember where it was since I travel there so infrequently.

I just looked over my bill going back several months. I am in NY and I don't have any 1.00 charge outside of normal use. I heard about this a long time ago but never noticed a charge as of yet
If you have it tied to automatically replenish with a credit card I don't think there is a fee. I as well do not pay a fee.

I'm in CT & have NY EZ Pass - definitely no fee. I think it depends on which plan you sign up for though. It works in MA, NH, ME, NY, NJ with no issues.

$13 now!

My trip to NY cost me $40 in tolls, I have a DE EZPass so couldn't get the car pool discounts. I need to find the NY one from stores... Think some people do not have a fee if they are getting statements online or maybe grandfathered in from before there were fees.
