$70 on a factory refurb with a 1 yr warranty looks pretty good but there have been a lot of Nook deals popping up the last few days, may want to hold out for a better deal on a new one.
I still don't understand why they don't just completely subsidize these if your going to be buying books through them. |

I have one of these and it is, hands down, the best eInk reader I have ever owned. Crisp, clear text. Ultra-responsive touch...no pressure invoved, a feather touch is all that is needed due to the infrared sensors built into the bezel. Fantastic device. I paid $140 new last August after my Sony PRS-600 fell into the toilet and don't regret it a bit. At $70, even refurb, I feel this is a bargain...but it may be $60 next week. You never know. |

FYI, while the black may be pretty dark I notice ghosting problems especially on the very small fonts, the kindle may be a better choice as they allow for an option of "refresh every page" which while "flashy" ensures you don't see ghosting from previous text. Hopefully BN will issue a patch (or I may buy an external card reader and jump through many hoops to root it then apply my own patch to allow for this).
Just my 2 cents nice technology, but the not refreshing every page leaves ghosting that is annoying on my simple touch. |

I have a Simple Touch and there's no ghosting at all. Perhaps you have a defective device. Have you called BN to ask about the issue? I would if it happened to mine. This is a good price for a refurb with a years warranty. |

As a Kindle Touch (mine) and a Nook Touch (fiancee) owner, I will say I enjoy using my fiancee's Nook far more. The rubberized grip makes it more comfortable to hold. The weight is more balanced while the Kindle feels more weighted to one end. Finally I would swear that the Nook is faster and crisper although I haven't put them completely head to head. The UI is better on the Nook as you can view books in a grid format by their cover.
The advantages I would say the Kindle has are few: one, the whole X-ray nonsense that lets you break down the book by major words/characters is kind of neat. The auto-highlighting of popular passages is a very cool feature. The device as a whole feels sturdier. There is less "ghosting" as one poster pointed out, but the page flashes are more frequent. I'd still though recommend Nook Touch to most folks- especially at this price range. |
