not as cheap as it's been but it's a good PSU for 20 bucks.
yes they whine iv'e got 2 of them a v1 and a v2 and neither can I hear if im more then 2 feet away (and listening for it) if I did'nt know about the whine I don't notice it unless im within about 6-12inchs. In practice it's a non issue, at least for me. I think it's mostly over dramatized, but YMMV If it ain't on slick deals.. i ain't buying it.

I'm on the fence with this PSU. On the one hand it's cheap, and is made by Corsair (I have their TX series, or HX, the modular one). On the other, it gets some seriously bad 1 and 2 star reviews about it having a terrible "whine", and a lot of DOA's. That leads me to believe it's this cheap for a reason.
BTW, I think it was $16 a week and a half ago AR. I should have jumped on the 5 star rated Cooler Master 460w deal last week for $25 AR. |

I got it when it was $16. It whined pretty noticeably for two nights and then it stopped. I think it has to do with my remote/media controller - it draws about 200mA from the 5VSB when the computer is off. Maybe the extra load while off caused the whine to disappear.

I bought two of these (a v1 and a v2 actually), and both have burned out within the warranty period. Corsair is good about doing RMAs, but with shipping costs and the bother, and potentially damaging components, you might be better off paying $10 more for a better power supply.

I have purchased probably 10 of these units over the last year, I would say 75% have been ok. The whine was really bad, I heard it in the next room, definitely a capacitor, not a fan. Take your chances, or wait until a better PSU goes on sale for like $25, cuz $20 os not a good deal on this one. It is usually $15-18.
