educate me on type 2 diabetes management
"This guy's walking down the street when he falls in a hole.
"A doctor passes by and the guy shouts 'Hey you. Can you help me?' The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole. "Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up. The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole. "Then a friend walks by. The friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, 'Are you stupid? Now we're both down here.' The friend says, 'Yeah, but I've been down here before and I know the way out.'" |

basically he needs 5 carbs and 1 protein per meal
1 carb = 15 grams of carbs, 1 protein = 15 grams protein. If you just put him on a protein only diet, his body will take and release the stored sugar in his cells and his counts could go higher then had he eaten carbs. insulin and exercise are the only 2 ways to deal with sugar. /posted under the influence of melatonin

My mom has it. She pricks her finger for the sugar test, and showed her doctor the results. He said the results were good. Her eye doctor said she has bleeding in back of her eyes and needs to get her sugar down. I have found different charts on what your blood should be. I am so confused.

I'm not sure why anyone would recommend a high carb, low protein diet to a diabetic. Nonetheless, see a nutritionist ASAP. I have degrees in both animal behaviorism and psychology and have come to the conclusion that animals make a hell of a lot more sense than people.

I don't know if it's exactly the same diet management with type 2 DM and gestational diabetes. But, when my wife had gestational diabetes, it was recommended that she ate three meals a day and snacked between meals. Apparently, going too long without eating really messes up your blood sugar. It's best to keep it at a constant level.
Also, as directed by her doctor and nurses, pastas didn't increase her blood sugar. In moderation, of course! Whereas, starchy carbs like potatoes and white rice would make her blood sugar spike like crazy. Overall, it wasn't too bad according to my wife. The one thing she missed while she had the gestational diabetes was desserts and sweets. She had to avoid them as much as possible. |

I used south beach and got to the point where i mainly ate beans and meat , my out to eat was simple, laid off hamburgers, switched to subs poor boys 6 /7 grams of fat.
Over a years time lost close to 75 pounds, and my numbers improved. The weight has stayed off. I still get hot flashes, shakes when i forget to eat. The biggest thing i did was always keep slim fast around, so when i need to eat or get to hungry i just grab a can of it. I always keep peanut butter crackers in my purse or a nut snack. It took some doing but eventually not only did my numbers get into control, once the numbers got better, the weight came off well. Good luck to your dad. I learned how do all kinds of sugar free stuff including baking. For cooking i learned to make rues that help with meat tastes as well as more tender and not the calories of flour gravies. thank you Slick deals !!

Lower carbs intake and quantity of food eaten or simple exercise a little 10-15 minutes of walking daily help but im a bad diabetic and dont practice what i preach. It kind of also depends on wether its weight related. I was never overweight and got type 2 diabetes at 32.
