Adobe does this every time a new version is coming out. Adobe LR4 is currently in beta testing so you may want to download it for 30 days to see if it's what you need. That being said, LR3 is excellent and well worth the $99 if you have a sizable photo collection.

I'll check that out thanks! Froknowsphoto is a nikon site but he dove video tutorials on lightroom...I'm in school again (for fun) so I can get the student discount on LR4 when it comes out which will be about $80

I've seen a lot of LR videos and Juliene Kost and Terry White have been consitently a "cut above" the other stuff I've found.

If you like to get straight to the point Kost is the best while Terry puts on a better show.

That said if you are getting LR prepare to do some learnin! Not just poke at it and figure it out learnin but sit still and watch the teacher learning. A lot of LR is totally non-intuitive (R for Crop? E for Loupe? Just remember Crrrrrrop and Loupeeeeeee) I had several false starts with LR and did not actually start using it until I purchased it and committed myself to dumping google/picasa.

Question: Would buying 3.5 at $99 (50% off??) and taking advantage of Adobe's upgrade pricing for LR 4 be about the same as just buying LR 4 when it comes out (which I assume will be near the full retail price for a bit?)

Also I say this in every LR thread but if you are in school or even if you have kids in school (including K through 12) you can get pretty decent discounts on the educational version. THe only problem is that version does not allow for upgrades (so full version at $99 + upgrade price for 4 may be less than the academic price for 3 then paying academic price again for 4).

Lightroom 4 is coming!

Even with LR4 coming it should *probably* be cheaper to buy this and the LR4 upgrade than the full version. I thought LR4 beta had some nice changes to the develop module but the video handling is totally gimmicky.

LR is essential for anybody who takes a lot of pics. Right now, I have Academic v3, which was a great deal but it's not upgradeable.
