Thinking of jumping on this ... waiting for community feedback though

Does it work if I bring it to Europe or Asia? 220W?

It is a pretty good deal, as long as you are not looking for cordless or full-on professional. For the every day hobbyist, this is a great kit. Variable speed is a requirement for me, as well as corded power. I have had the cordless kind, and it is kind of like a dustbuster...it just does not cut it for the vast majority of the things it gets used for.

Ya I've got an off brand cheapy rotary tool and have been wanting to get a Dremel just to have for certain things. Definitely not a pro and cordless would be a great plus but like you say loses power quick.

This and the 160 piece kit form amazon might be in my garage soon.

While Dremel is the most popular one, Proxxon are a step up, both in performance and in price. I've been using this one: http://www.amazon.com/Proxxon-384.../B001FWXEO for three years and it's been great. The reviews are great too... But Dremel is certainly cheap compared to the Proxxon 38481. So your choice will depend on how long you expect it to last and how tough jobs you plan to tackle.

I got this at a local ACE hardware for BF to replace my much older model which had lasted me about 10 years before dying (bad motor brushes that I screwed up while replacing). This one feels a little more cheaply made than my old model, but so far has worked well. its useful to have around the house and especially as a small hobby tool. Always remember to let the tool do the work and not press too hard, if the motor is bogging down in the material, you're probably pressing too hard. The collection of accessories here is minimal, but you can often find a good deal on third party accessories (costco has one now in my store that I was tempted by, but I still have so many from my older setup.)


The manual doesn't say anything about using 110V or 220V, but I'm guessing it would not work at 220.

AFAIK: The 300 is the most affordable model with VSR, which IMHO is critical for what most people expect to do with one. This is the one to buy for most home owners.

FWIW, I inherited a large bench top dremel model with the flex-shaft . . etc. but I wanted something portable. I tried the dremel 100, which was junk, as was the 200 I exchanged for (surprisingly the B&D RTX is a better tool than either of those). All that being said, this is a better tool than all three at a great price. Tempted to buy this myself.

Jumped on this a couple of years back. Motor burned out on me recently though. Dremel does warranty these for 4 years, just send it in with a note on what happened and they cover the repair.

Excellent tool, hacks through everything I have thrown at it.

Why not buy the 3000 which according to Dremel is an improved version of the 300? They're about the same price.

I personally decided that the 4000 was better choice for my needs because the tool can be powered on and off without altering the speed setting.

Appears to be the same price as Lowe's current sale. If you have a mover's coupon, you can save additional 10% but will have to pay tax. So a little cheaper than amazon.

I was about to ask what was the difference between the 300 and 4000 when you posted. any other difference you know of? What is the high performance attachments I see referred to in description. I see the 4000 listed for about $25 more
