Both have their pluses and minues....if anyone is looking for sports in HD they need to go with Directv. No MLB Extra Innings or NFL Sunday Ticket with Dish.
Without the big $200 rebate, I would probably lean towards Direct now with their new setup. The older receivers were always a catch for me.

Two TVs, both in HD?
I have 6 TVs and 3 are in HD. The VIP722k receivers can only output HD to one TV and SD to the other. Not an issue for us but that may matter to others. But I also have 2Tb drives on each receiver and wireless N connections as well as blockbuster on demand in every room.

If you are happy with Dish then you should stay with them. All pricing is on the Directv website and they aren't hiding any charges. The website clearly states what your prices are for all 24 months of your contract. I understand some people don't like their bill increasing after the 1st year of promotional discounts but the website clearly states that the price will infact increase.
You do know about the recent yearly increases, right?

Yeah big difference. You also have to be in range for the rf antenna to work too. I also upgraded my directv DVRs to 2TB each but that is irrelevant here. The new directv swm system makes the dish system look pathetic. Dish is for people who want to save a couple bucks at the expense of everything else. No offense Big Grin

Please don't misunderstand, not trying to TC at all. I would really like the whole home DVR solution, but I keep hearing about people getting their rates raised without warning with little or no recourse. Not sure how that can be done under contract but I am no attorney... Unless maybe I am misunderstanding and the rate hikes are taking place after the 2 year period?
They do give you a warning, and they say you have the right to mot agree and they will cancel your account, but not without the ETF...they have a clause in the contract that says that they can raise the price except durog the first year (even If you have a. 2-year contract)....they are evil

Guys, the HOME MEDIA CENTER DVR cannot be hyped enough. I install for DirecTV, and the thing really is incredible. Five freaking tuners means you can record five shows at once anywhere in your house where you have an HD receiver. 100% worth the $99. Dish Network is coming out with a POS "hopper" wanna be receiver, that can only record 3 shows at once. They will CLAIM it can record 6 shows at once but ONLY IF FOUR OF THOSE SHOWS ARE THE FOUR MAJOR NETWORKS, and that is ONLY during certain hours.... so yeah, DirecTV blows away Dish.
Renewing for 2 years really kills the deal though

So its a 24 month contract but they can raise the rates to anything they want after 12? That is a little scary.
Yes, very. Believe me.

I always get the US too. I have a number that bypasses the automated system and goes straight to a human in less than ten seconds so maybe that bypasses the call centers too. I dunno.

Yes, in reality that is true but in reality they have increased the programming fees no more than $4 or $5 each during each February during the time I've had the service. You can always cancel by paying the $240 ETF (amount due after your first 12 months). If you are paying $80 a month for the service that is only 3 months of payment you need to make to complete your contract, not 12 months to finish out your contract.
The fact is that they can increase the rate and they do...freaking contracts are supposed to protect both parties...not in this case..with this year's , depending on the number of receivers, your bill can go up by more than 10

I have never been out of RF range with my remotes two floors up! And simply put, I do not need HD in my kitchen, gym or bathroom. So yea, I will choose a $360 savings a year with Dish. Oh and in my case add $200 for the rebate to the savings for the first year anyway. As I stated above I would consider Direct TV now but I still would not pay more for useless features (to me).

Hey, Bix LTNS. Looks like all the Directv boo birds have come here to roost. As for me, I am 6 months into my NEW 2 year contract with Directv. I am PLANNING to cancel and pay the $240 ETF come next August. WHY??? Because I will spend less money than it would cost to actually buy NFL Sunday Ticket, pay the increased monthly cost for year 2, and obtw, I will get an HR34 for $99 rather than GMAFB $399.

In the words of Kenny Rogers, You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em...

Directv has BY FAR the best sports, and more HDTV channels than any of the also rans. I get "High Speed Internet from Comcast, so, I get notification of all their "Price Adjustments". That is REALLY GRIM! I have no idea why any rational person who had another choice would do business with Comcast ON THEIR TERMS.

ALL and I mean ALL of the tv services will stick it to you! Directv, will increase my bill by more than $20 per month in year 2 of my latest contract, and if I am stupid enough to hang on, it will go up again AFTER MY CONTRACT IS OVER, and again every February till death do us part!!!!. Comcast increased my triple play bill to a cool $211 per month after the promotional period ended. I voted on that increase with my feet.

What I think everyone should do is NEVER MARRY your tv provider. Do not just threaten to move your business, GROW A PAIR and MOVE. They all LOVE NEW CUSTOMERS. So BE ONE, every chance you get.
