seems the desks have been going on clearance different times at different stores. My local staples had them at this price about a month ago and sold out within a day.

I own this desk and the elevated center monitor stand is optional. Two standard sized monitors (19" - 24") could easily fit without the center stand installed. I opted not to attach the center stand since my monitor is 37".
