2x fyi
1. if you're replacing an existing opener it's pretty easy and shouldn't take but an hour or so. you can probably reuse some of the existing hardware if it's in good shape. for a fresh install i'd budget 2-3 hours and make sure you're comfortable with heavy things at awkward angles. hope you have a tall wife.
2. it's quiet but far from silent. you'll still definitely hear it going up and down but compared to a chain drive it's a big improvement.

Our first install was a nightmare. Thing never worked smoothly. Was going to have Sears do the install, but saw they were going to charge something like $300 (yikes!) to do it. Here's hoping this one goes smoother!

Can I buy it now and price match this weekend? Not sure if Sears does PM.

is genie a good brand? don't know much about garage door openers, but funny thing is, I need one to replace one that just broke.

That's unfortunate about the install. My co-worker said his first install was an absolute nightmare also (not this model). My brother and I actually installed this same exact model in a 1 car garage not even 2 weeks ago. All said and done, took us about an hour. If we were to do it again, ~30 mins. We're both pretty handy but this one was pretty straight forward and we got lucky cause no modifications were needed to the door itself and wiring for the door sensors were already in place.

Genie is a good brand. Some of their models are probably the best in the market. This one is a lower end model but in my experience with it - 2 weeks - I have no complaints.

Don't you generally need some sort of extension for 16x9 doors for these? Or maybe that is just the belt driven type.

Width doesn't matter, but if your garage door is taller than 7ft you'll need an extension. This goes for belt, chain and screw drives.

You'll need an extension for this model. I believe the majority of models are made for standard 7' doors without extensions/modifications.

I used metal electrical conduit to install each of mine. You'll need a vise and a drill and a hacksaw, but it is way cheaper than all that angle iron and way more stable than plumbers strapping.

Cut to length, hammer/crimp the ends flat, bend to correct angle, drill holes, fasten to ceiling and unit with lag screws and/or bolts. (you might be able to bend into a 'U' with a conduit bender - hmm?)

1/2 conduit $1.69 at home depot for 10'.

3' slotted steel angle - $8 and you need 2 or even 3. $22 savings.
