We haven't had a real vacation in 5 years. He works all the time. These little trips I take are me and ds tagging along on business trips. They're fun but not a vacation. I'm beat by the time we get home. We'll see if we get to go on one this summer laugh out loud.

Dh drives me crazy shopping. Bless his heart, he doesn't know how to laugh out loud.
You do need a vacation girl! It's so hard, it's such a fine line to make sacrifices to provide for a family and to let your job prevent you from enjoying time with them because your sacrifices run a lot longer than 8 - 5 PM. The oilfield sucks too.

I hope you guys get a nice vacation soon that doesn't involve DH shopping laugh out loud

I have wondered about that dryer holder for years - does it actually work?!

Oh, I use dry shampoo and am a brunette, but I have to REALLY brush my hair afterwards. Like, a LOT. I use Klorane dry shampoo...I like it Smilie
Your question made me laugh. It does not really do anything. You just strap your hair dryer in, and there is a slightly-open circle that it rests on. I will not blow dry my hair without it. I have too much hair and get to tired holding the hair dryer and a brush.

Thanks for the dry shampoo suggestion.

I use Alterna [sephora.com], love it. It smells great! Just like someone else said, you really have to brush it out so it doesn't leave white markings in your hair.

And for me, what makes it even seem like it's even a tad more impossible is that the fact that friends that are my age - mid 20s have lavish weddings, taking crazy vacations every few months, and are buying houses like money is just rolling out of their pockets.

I think what makes it even more frustrating is that even though I'm going to start a life with my DBF a few more years down the road, he's not overly concerned and makes more than enough to pay off his student loans easily, but it's getting done sooo slowly. Not that I'm one to talk with my shopping - at least I get deals, he just willy nilly dishes out full price for things that can be had for much cheaper! Faint I can't wait until we start getting our finances in line for the future, but of course, I'm more frugal and he complains about not being able to be like my lavish friends, which I'm fine with, but let's see..take overseas vacation..or pay off student loans... Course he goes with the vacation when he can pay off loans and then take more vacations in the future!! Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) And it pisses me off that he keeps telling me to take vacations when I just want to save my money! GRR! Sorry! /rant.
Thanks for the dry shampoo suggestion.

Finances and money are deal breakers for me. If we cannot get on the same page about that, the relationship will not work. I am about to shut down the shopping (except VS) after I buy my nieces their b-day/holiday gifts and baby shower gifts. nuSO thinks I spend a lot, but he is trying to get me to re-do my home. #SoSad

Victoria's Secret is a lifestyle!

If you like it, I love it!

I know Icy doesn't have an "e", but apparently there is another Icy Niki with the same CC as me!

i know it is an older asseenontv product. i kinda have an idea how long ago i originally wanted it because i was new to the us then. it must have been pricier back then too. i think i was able to convince dh i needed it, but for some reason i never pulled the trigger.

based on your review, i think i don't need it then. my hair is probably considered faster to dry.

Comfort i can't imagine how hard that is... i am so very lucky that my dbf/df is so incredibly frugal that i am a big spender compared to him. (i am not - all my friends know this!) hopefully, you will rub off on him and get him to consider paying off those pesky loans whenever he can! i think my dbf only traveled out of the country once before he met me... he was probably too cheap to pay for vacation before. but since then he's spent a month in europe and been to multiple parts of asia. i have rubbed off on him... i'm sure you can do the same! laugh out loud

reminds me - i'm starting to look at where to go for my honeymoon!!! Whee any suggestions ladies? everything is astronomically expensive. when a night's stay costs $2k it kinda makes the $10 i save here or there seem useless.

i just did a mock referral. it is a promo code they give you after you register through referral link. it's a long promo code one-time-use $10 off, not may10. since it's only 1 promo code per order, you can pick only one of the two. the advantage of referral link is it seems to be $10 off no minimum purchase for you. and you get to give someone a $10 off (which i suspect will be a code too, so nonstackable with any other offer).

remington 3-in-1 dryer [folica.com]. this is the one with the beach wave attachment. will be $18 + possible mag rebate. i'm originally thinking this takes too long to achieve the result, but i'm rethinking it for $18 laugh out loud but i really am trying to minimize my clutter too!

What do you teach?
I each an upperclassman finance course. People who don't like math or numbers tend to not like my course (or rather the course in general regardless of the teacher. When I was getting my masters (one in may and one in statistics) and I taught, the students were much nicer to me there. I miss my math department students and liberal arts students. They gave me masters students because I was a native English speaker, and those students were definitely older than me at the time...but they were so nice. I think business students have a an entitlement attitude that I'm starting to figure out how to deal with. I have absolutely ridiculous stories, and the older the students, the stranger the circumstances. For example, an MBA is much more likely to fight with me over two points than a non traditional student who go is at least 10 times more likely to fight with me than an undergrad. I'm relieved to not be teaching a night class next semester.

I think a big part of the frustration is doing it the "right" way. Me and DH have two vehicles that are both paid off. We would like a new car, but we don't need one, so we keep what we have. I drive a 2007 manual transmission Corolla. I would LOVE more room and not to have to fark with a clutch while stuck in traffic all the time, but the car is great, reliable, and paid off. We want to pay off our medical bills and get a house. We could go buy a house now, but without 20% down we'll be pissing away money on PMI. We could pay off the medical bills but we'd have no emergency cash left. We could take lavish vacations, but we'd be broke and have debt.

I think we are a bit smarter than most people our age. DH and I are trying to do things with no debt or limited debt. So many people our age feel like they have to keep up with all of their friends and others and honestly - who wouldn't love to be able to afford all that stuff without a thought? Just think that later in life, all of our deal hunting will pay off because we will be in SO MUCH better shape than others Smilie

At least, I tell myself all of this so I feel better laugh out loud

I'm 27 and DH will be 29 in July FWIW...
I definitely agree about keeping up with the Jones'. I'd end up with so much crap that I don't need/want Faint For me, it's like, man, I wish I can go on so many vacations and have my own house already! I sure feel like I'm behind!

My car is older Faint I would looove a new car, one of the things I'm saving up for!

I really hope our deal hunting will pay off in the end, but it seems to make me spend more than necessary, although, I will admit, I've gotten some fantastic deals because of all you girls. And now that I've ceased shopping 90% and am actually using my stuff, the feeling is not so bad!

I'd like to be able to put down at least 20% down as well, but from the way DBF makes it sound, it will be hard. I just think of my friends who can do that and they're just soo lucky. In hindsight, better financial decisions (fewer makeup and clothes Stick Out Tongue) could've put me a couple of steps closer.

I couldn't agree more about finances being a major factor in a relationship. You will be fine when you stop most of the shopping! nod I am!

I sure hope I will rub off on him sooner rather than later! In his mind, he considers himself cheap when he compares himself to his coworkers. All in all, he's not THAT bad, but could be better, as could I. He chalks it up to paying for all those school loans, but he's been working for a long time out of school now and I still don't really see that as an excuse anymore. shake head

I think when he traveled out of the country, he was okay staying at hostels and had people's place to stay at along with a couple of hotels, but if I were to travel out of the country aside from where family live, I do not want to be living in a hostel EEK! I want to be able to spend and enjoy and not be cheap when I travel! He's fine traveling alone and I guess when you're a guy and go alone, there's really no sense of needing to be responsible for anyone other than himself and just spend on himself.

I love the idea of couples getting on the same page with finances! Now, to rub off on him....Sly

For your honeymoon! Anywhere you wanna go? What kind of honeymoon are you looking for? I wanna try one of those hotel huts in Bali or somewhere with ocean like the Caribbeans or something! But some people like the poshness of Europe. I guess if you're going to stay on a hotel in the canals of Venice like the one on The Tourist...But you said you've been to Europe already...

i am IN LOVE with the huts on the ocean!! but dbf/df is scared of water. Sadwalk i think he would get over it for me, but those also happen to cost two arms and two legs, a night. laugh out loud right now i'm looking in the south pacific - we know people who have gone to bora bora and tahiti and it looks divine (esp bora bora) but from what i read, it's more of a 'see and be seen' sort of place, which is very unlike both of us. it's also one of the most expensive places (i.e. hotel rooms start at 1k a night for nicer place, and meal plans, which you need to get bc you're on a secluded island with no other food source, start at like 1-200 a day per person! Faint) i had almost decided on fiji - it's a happy medium - you still get the clear blue waters but it's not as frou frou (plus they speak english - big plus! and they're really nice) but there are these giant spiders that live there. EEK! i'm scared, and dbf/df is really scared of spiders. they're supposedly harmless, but when it's the size of your palm, i don't think it matters. Ermm

bali looks nice, but i keep thinking it's more of a vacation not a honeymoon. idk. it's not completely out of the question but i was aiming for more of a white sand beach/clear blue waters scene, at least for part of it. (bali's beaches are supposedly not the highlight - for those you should go to thailand in the area)

we just did europe last year so i'm not feeling that at all. i would consider asia, or south america (peru is on my list of things to do). but somehow it's not right without a beach component.

and dude, Whip get on your dbf and make him pay off his loans! he should be getting a tax refund soon (i just got mine! Whee) - make him put that towards his loans! any little bit counts... we don't have any loans and already it's feeling ridiculously difficult to save up for a house! oh, and my car is a 2000 accord tha'ts hitting 200k miles soon... and dbf/df's is older! hahaha we are total cheapskates. i don't plan on getting a new car anytime soon - my commute is 3 miles. if i can't drive i could technically take the bus.
