Thanks, picked these Yamahas up as surrounds for my budget 5.1 system - needed something smaller and wall mountable to fit room constraints, so hopefully these will sound ok. I already have from an earlier deal, the Pioneer BS21s for the front L/R, and the C21 for the center. $130 total so far, for all 5 speakers is not bad for my budget. Now just need a sub and an amp/receiver.

It's a great deal but even with two, 2.5" drivers are awfully small. Drivers that small will force you to use a high subwoofer crossover point, probably 120-140Hz if not higher. If you have no choice but to use small speakers then there's a good deal here. If you have the room for bigger, use it.

They are pretty nice looking speakers through and the price is right. Could be an affordable way to check out 9/11 channel arrangements or upgrade computer system / htib satellites that have no tweeters.

Can I use this as laptop speakers? Do I need anything like a sound card? I only have the headphone jack on my laptop.

you would need an amp such as a receiver or something to hook them up to and then hook the computer up to that

They look ok. These would be ok with a small amp in a bedroom or as surrounds maybe. I guess you could buy 3 sets for 5.1 and find a cheapo sub somewhere...

Agreed, there is only so much a small speaker such as this can do. As surrounds, I hope these will be decent, at least the build and non-plastic case seem nice for the size and price. I will be mounting one to the side of a bookcase against the back wall, so this size should work well in that regard. Wouldn't want to use speakers this size as fronts or a center though, unless there was no other space in a particular room. That is one reason I am puzzled by some of the claims made about various 5.1 systems that use speakers not much if any bigger than these. For example the Energy Take 5 Pack that some persons rave about, only have 3 inch "woofers". Yet some people claim they best $1000 systems. But perhaps the laws of physics don't apply equally in all parts of the world?
