I've used a celeron for a couple of years and loved it. It doesn't deserve the flak it gets. The zero value in the link is understandable

It's sandybridge core. Even at 1.6GHz it will run with prior gen stuff at ~2GHz and beat the tar out of AMD's current cpus at 1.3-1.8GHz (E series).

Is the other deal worth the additional $65 or so (after reward card), or will the performance ultimately be quite similar for a user who likes to check email/facebook, surf the web, and also watch youtube videos?This can presumably handle all those, even the youtube videos, well, right?

This is good enough for normal use like emails, facebook and youtube videos. I'm getting one myself. The best thing is it has hdmi. So I can easily connect it to TV.

It gets a 1672 in Passmark, the same as the older Intel Core2 Duo E6750 at 2.66Ghz. For the average user this Celeron is going to have plenty of power. I know plenty of people still getting by on Pentium 4s which have Passmark scores of less than 500.

and compare it to cpus around 1672. Pentium P6300 is right there and used in many cheapy notebooks but performs well for what it is. Thanks OP.
