FINALLY, Samsung is offering a Class Action Settlement on a defective capacitor in some TV's. I am sure lots of people in SD community have bought these early LCD/Plasma/DLP model HDTV's from Samsung around 2008. I had "ln52a650a1f" LCD HDTV that died right after 2 year warranty expired. I called Samsung and argued with manger and ended up cussing at him because they wouldn't acknowledge the problem or give any sort of reimbursement. After doing some research, I found out that lots of people are having same problem with Samsung TVs bought around 2008 and the cause was a faulty capacitor bought from Chingmai electronics (basically means Chinese junk Smilie) that's inside these model TV's.

My problem was getting ghost images, dark multiple images that would clear after TV warmed up for 30-45 minutes but it was a pain the "you know where". So, last month I ended up buying LG 3D TV that I absolutely love and vowed to never buy Samsung again wavewave

Here is the link that you need to check your model and take appropriate action:

NO SAMSUNG TV's for me again.

I was aware of the capacitor problem a couple of years ago and more or less fixed it myself. I ordered the capacitors for a few dollars and paid some guy $15 to solder them in. TV has worked fine ever since.

Has anyone sued them for the panel lottery, or another company for doing the same thing?

(A panel lottery is when you buy an LCD TV or monitor and get IPS, MVA, PVA, or something by chance even though the model number is identical and there is no way for the buyer to know what they're buying because the companies hide the panel manufacturer information.)

A recent case of the panel lottery appears to be Dell with PWM backlighting. Some review sites said the S2440L monitor doesn't have PWM. However, most users, if not all of them, are reporting getting panels that use it. Something is fishy.

I filed in the past, no response. I called and they wanted to send a technician to my house and diagnose the problem and fix the capacitor.. I told them I would call back..

My LCD just started doing the power cycle thing, and I just got off the phone with a rep. It was a painless 5 minute call, and a repairman will be out this Friday.

So this is a heads up that Samsung is still accepting repair claims. According to the settlement documentation, they will do so for only the next few weeks ('Within 18 months of March 2, 2012).

Damn, I timed that right.

Just wanted to let everyone know. Samsung is still doing the repairs. I called yesterday and they are going to send some one to change the capacitors this week.
Thanks for opening up this thread and to SD

What was the manufacture date cut off? I have LN52A750R1FXZA manufactured in April 2009 with the classic symptoms of long start and now with clicking/stand by light blinking/rebooting.

I just called Samsung and was told tough luck by the support and then by the executive team. Any suggestions?
