FINALLY, Samsung is offering a Class Action Settlement on a defective capacitor in some TV's. I am sure lots of people in SD community have bought these early LCD/Plasma/DLP model HDTV's from Samsung around 2008. I had "ln52a650a1f" LCD HDTV that died right after 2 year warranty expired. I called Samsung and argued with manger and ended up cussing at him because they wouldn't acknowledge the problem or give any sort of reimbursement. After doing some research, I found out that lots of people are having same problem with Samsung TVs bought around 2008 and the cause was a faulty capacitor bought from Chingmai electronics (basically means Chinese junk Smilie) that's inside these model TV's.

My problem was getting ghost images, dark multiple images that would clear after TV warmed up for 30-45 minutes but it was a pain the "you know where". So, last month I ended up buying LG 3D TV that I absolutely love and vowed to never buy Samsung again wavewave

Here is the link that you need to check your model and take appropriate action:

NO SAMSUNG TV's for me again.

I ended up replacing the capacitors myself. Got a set from e-bay and resoldered six new capacitors. The TV now starts right away without any problems and the job was really easy. There are many tutorials on YouTube and the net so even if you never did anything with electronics it is worth a shot.

Just wanted to let everyone know. Samsung is still doing the repairs. I called yesterday and they are going to send some one to change the capacitors this week.
Thanks for opening up this thread and to SD
I just called Samsung for LNT4065, and Samsung is going to send out someone tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Well I'll be damb. Got my tv repaired in 2012 . I have the tv in a room that doesn't get cable so haven't used it since the repair. Now I've bought a wi-fi Blu-ray player and decided hey we can use it to watch Netflix. After hooking up the Blu-ray player the tv is showing me nothing but lines. WTH?!?!?!? I'll probably be sol, but I'm calling Samsung again. Looks like I got a bad panel on the replacement. dang

They won't replace the panel on ours unless we pay for it - $1400. It is just sitting in our guest bedroom being hardly used. A lemon they won't fully acknowledge.

0worthit - did Samsung send someone out to do an estimate? I was told that if it's the same part that went bad they (Samsung) would pay for the replacement, if not then it would be on me.

When they first came out the only thing the guy did was replace a motherboard. He unscrewed it from the tv, removed a ribbon cord, opened a box and changed out the motherboard. That was it. He did not replace any capacitors or power supply. That's why I'm a bit hot. I had a working TV prior. Granted it clicked and turned off whenever it wanted but it worked.

I finally got SAMSUNG to fix my tv...they said it was a capacitors problem, but the problem has reappeared...however, the problem was HORIZONTAL LINES AND BLOTCHES ACROSS THE SCREEN.. this TV was purchased in 2008. I did not know there was a class action suit. Has anyone else had these symptoms?
