I have one of these and it is such a pos.. I have sent it back 3 times within the first 9 months (1x video card dying, 2x overheating) and it is still not fixed.. hard locks all the time.. my two cents: save your money and buy something else. HP spent more money trying to market how thin it is w/o looking at putting parts that can work in a small space. as always ymmv but if you search the rest of the SD site I am sure you will find similar feedback.

I really appreciate this comment. I am hoping to buy a laptop in the next hour and it is quite difficult to know what machines are poor and what are not.

I love the ruggedness of my IBM lenovo T61 and it has been quite reliable. I want a faster machine but am not going to pay for a POS.

The above comment was clearly not referring to the product for sale here. Maybe he has experience with the older models, but this one has not been out for more than a couple months.

HP has been reusing the same name, its the same insides they just make pretty updates to the outside so people want to "newest one".. I am willing to bet the same pos parts are inside this "new" envy 15 as the "old" envy 15 sitting on my coffee table. as always ymmv along with your opinion, just my two cents..

Well, maybe you should not give your 2 cents if you do not know what you are talking about.
Granted, HP had problems with their older envy series 1st generation i7s (and i5s).
I actually was amongst the first to get their envy 17 3D i7 last year (which they just recently refreshed again). The newer sandy bridge i7 envys do not have that overheating problem anymore. They had some throttel issues in the beginning, but they have been fixed by bios updates. I am not a heavy gamer, but I do some heavy 3D rendering.
I have had laptops for about 15 years now, everything from Dell, Samsung to IBM and though I was sceptical with HP in the beginning, I am glad I got it. It's been great and hands down the best looking laptop in it's price range (comparable mac book will cost you at least twice as much).

I was serious. I am on an old Lenovo T61 now and it has been very reliable. I bought it used from a local shop a few months ago. It once fell off my lap - no damage. I've had only one blue screen of death, probably resulting from excessive memory/CPU usage by too many open programs.

I want this quality in whatever higher-end machine we buy.
