Verizon FiOS Triple Play holders with no contract(month-to-month): faster internet plan, no extra charge - YMMV
This is for customers with Verizon FiOS triple play with non-contract bundles who have the 25/25 internet package in their bundle. For example: TV+Internet 25/25+Digital voice with no termination fee(month-to-month).
For those who are unfamiliar about speeds, the first number is the download speed in mbps while the second number is the upload speed in mbps. Mbps is NOT the same thing as mbytes. Divide mbps by 8 to get mbytes. For example 25 divided by 8 is 3.125mbytes a second, which is the form you most commonly see while downloading files off the internet.
I do not think this will work if you have a contract, but you can find out. Do not even bother calling in to get this, it's most likely an online only option. They have different promotions over the phone, probably not as good. I live in Long Island, NY.
I had FiOS TV Extreme(incl. showtime package), 25/25 internet plan, and Digital Voice package (Tier 2 package). For the past year I've been trying to upgrade just my internet to 35/35 but this new "bundle" would remove my free included showtime package. I felt it wasn't worth losing these channels for the extra speed increase because the family likes those channels.
I just checked yesterday, and it seems they changed around the bundle pricing. I now see middle tiered bundle (Tier 2) including the 35/35 internet speeds, while also including the showtime bundle, for the same price my original Tier 2 bundle was. I double checked and made sure, the only difference between the old and new tier 2 bundle was the upgraded internet speeds.
For non-contract, month-to-month customers: Changing from the old Tier 2 bundle, to the new Tier 2 bundle, your current discounts and promotions should not ne affected, and should remain until they were originally set to expire. The speed packages vary from area to area, for example: you might not see 25/25, and you may see 20/20 or something. However in the end, you should still be able to upgrade to a faster speed, regardless of what the speeds are. Verizon likes to add better packages for the same old price, and not mention anything about them.
The reason I say this is YMMV is because there are different promotional prices per area depending where you live, it just happened to work out for me hassle free in the New York, Long Island area.
A couple of pointers(after logging into www.verizon.net ):
1) Do NOT try doing anything in the "Upgrade & Renewal Center". I looked in that section and it seemed there were contract options in there, which you do not want a contract.
2) Look on the right side, and scroll down to the "Account Actions" area. You should see three tabs: "Internet, TV, Home Phone" Click the internet tab, and then click "Add or Change services". There you will be able to mess around with the current updated bundles for your area.
For people who live in the NY Metro Area with Tier 1 or 3 bundles:
It looks like Tier 3 might get a free upgrade (or downgrade depending on how you look at it) to 50/20. Faster download speeds, but slower upload speeds than their original 35/35 plan.
For tier 1: it looks like you get upgraded to the original tier 2 speeds of 25/25.
Let me know how it works for you guys! You can mess around with options. Nothing gets saved until the final checkout at the end.
