I wonder if there are any scientific studies comparing reaction time and accuracy between the two? However, I do know that auto-aim was a feature put into games because of the inaccuracy of analog controls. And that it's far more instinctive to point at your target than to twitch your thumb at it. I've never heard any actual reason for DA being better other than "it's the control scheme I've spent a lot of time practicing so I'm used to it." You can write legibly with your foot if you practice hard enough. I

In simpler terms, the developers had no other choice but to develop on the PS2/Xbox if they wanted to get their foot in the console market. That's not the case with the Wii, since now the devs have a choice where they can forgo a lesser hardware platform to develop on something with more horsepower to give them the visual fidelity they desire, despite the smaller install base than that of the Wii. As for the control scheme, i still don't believe the execution of the Wiimote or peripherals provide the accuracy desired for any competitive gamer. If you want to have fun in single player campaign mode, then I agree that it would be a more immersive and entertaining experience to use the motion controls. But when we are talking about quick and precise accuracy in an online competitive match, then i know i would definitely prefer dual analog to the current implementation of the wii controls. From my personal view, I'd also imagine the motion controls would become tiring after about 60 min or so. Dual analog still seems more efficient as a control scheme to me and thus better for what i use them for. Call me lazy if you'd like, but i play video games to unwind after a long day and I prefer to get my exercise through dedicated physical activity like sports instead.

I don't ever recall being tired from playing FPS with a wiimote for long periods (I actually put in some hours in red steel back when it first released). I found that just resting my hand on my lap while point the wiimote at the screen was a very comfortable position for long hours of play and it allowed for aiming just perfect. I didn't have to stick my arm straight out all the time. Now in regards to controls, the pointer based controls are better at precision aiming than dual analog but turning is the main issue. I never tried making the bounding box smaller so I can't comment on that but definitely when it comes to aiming within your FOV (ie- sniping), IR pointing is superior.

No regrets. My Wii is used more by my 6-year-old than by me nowadays, but I still enjoy trying to finish my huge backlog of Wii and Gamecube games, (Curse you, Super Mario Sunshine!) and playing cooperative games with her and my girlfriend.
I don't play violent games in front of the kid, so I find myself retreating to my mancave/loft and playing my PS3 or PC more. Interestingly, my kid prefers using the Wii over the PS3 for Netflix streaming. I guess she just likes the Wiimote more than the PS3 remote. She doesn't really watch anything available in HD anyway. |

Funny that this got bumped up today since I just got a new smaller TV stand on Tuesday which forced me to downsize what is hooked up. I finally had to admit to myself that I never use the Wii anymore (it's been 8 or 9 months I think?) and I put the damn thing away. If I ever buy Skyward Sword I'll bring it out and hook it up for a week but I think it is craigslist material otherwise...

nope, not for a second. honestly it was a better gaming system for core gamers, and had far better exclusives than the 360 did.
