Thread Details

Last Edited by godfather927 February 27, 2012 at 12:54 PM
Thread to discuss movies of any type and date, but perhaps with more focus on recent ones in the past couple years.

Please be courteous to others when discussing a fairly recent movie with unexpected plot elements or endings, and always spoiler tag comments that could ruin the story for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet. When trying to decide whether or not to tag something, please err on the side of caution since even the mention that a certain movie has a twist (without divulging what it is) could end up being a mini-spoiler itself.

In case you don't already know how, you can spoiler tag any block of text with the following tags:

this tag goes at the end of the hidden text ~~~~>
this tag goes at the beginning of the hidden text ~~~~>
Even though it looked retarded from the trailers, favorable reviews led me to go see 21 jump st over the weekend. Fukin hilarious. Theres one part in particular where i almost died. Haven't laughed that hard since the tranquilizer scene from Old School.
My wife thinks it looks funny so we might go see it at some point.

Also, I have only seen a trailer once and have zero knowledge of the books, but The Hunger Games looks kinda interesting.

Saw the Hunger Games last weekend with the wife. Didn't really enjoy the sci-fi elements because they were very poorly established. She liked it and is a huge fan of the series, and I'm sure the books are better but I don't read so i'll never know. Jennifer Lawrence was really good in it but the script and direction felt pretty subpar.

Saw it last Friday too. I thought it was pretty good. I thought they got way to artsy at times...especially the camera/production work at the very beginning...I said it looked like a 14 yo girls YouTube video about the Blare Witch Project.

I thought the story was great though, and there was some decent action scenes with nothing really that crazy over the top. Anyway, highly recommended; we'll probably go watch it again when it hits the dollar theaters.

Saw it yesterday. After reading the books.. I was satisfied with the movie, but not thrilled. Clocking in at 2 hours 22 minutes, I was kind of surprised at how much they left out given the time, but the movie didn't really drag or feel as long as it was. Felt the book had much better pacing; the Games themselves went so quickly, while that was most of the book's focus.

Have you guys read the books?

I think my diction will give you enough of an insight as to how much I read.

Very much so agreed with your comment about the length of the movie. it is a pretty LONG movie, and at no point did I wish it was closer to the end or feel like "ohh, they are just working on character development...lame" laugh out loud

Watched Tower Heist [imdb.com]this weekend. I would rate it a 5 out of 10. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but there were a couple really funny jokes that caught me off guard.

One thing I don't get is how it's being portrayed by the public as the next Twilight.. it's a bloodbath of children killing each other! The movie barely even touched on the romantic aspects of the main characters (which is maybe why the books could be perceived as teen-y).

Just don't understand the correlation - thought it was a pretty decent action movie and they especially downplayed the relationships from the books between the main characters.

Because the same group that voraciously gobbled up the Twilight book series has done the same with this trilogy. There are more guys outside that age range that have read this one though.

Yeah, I'm 27 and enjoyed the first book. It's a good read. A few chapters into the second and it's dragging, but still decent. Easy reading for sure, you can finish each book in a day or three.
