Thread Details

Last Edited by godfather927 February 27, 2012 at 11:54 AM
Thread to discuss movies of any type and date, but perhaps with more focus on recent ones in the past couple years.

Please be courteous to others when discussing a fairly recent movie with unexpected plot elements or endings, and always spoiler tag comments that could ruin the story for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet. When trying to decide whether or not to tag something, please err on the side of caution since even the mention that a certain movie has a twist (without divulging what it is) could end up being a mini-spoiler itself.

In case you don't already know how, you can spoiler tag any block of text with the following tags:

this tag goes at the end of the hidden text ~~~~>
this tag goes at the beginning of the hidden text ~~~~>
Just got back from seeing Looper. Probably the best movie i've seen in the past two or three years. Neo-noir sci-fi with a couple really amazing scenes. Highly recommended.
I was hyped for Looper but gotta whole-heartedly disagree on this one. I thought Looper sucked and this is the type of movie I tend to like

Spoilers:

Now if you want a simple/simply amazing sci-fi movie you would watch Primer.

Imagine Momento with time travel rather than just chronological mind games, but with its own set of mind games.

Its amazing what people can do on such a limited budget and shows what great writing and skill is capable of.
Heard good things about Primer.

I didn't really like Looper that much either. I saw a screener for it on Thursday. It was just really predictable like entro said.

Achievements are not for the meek, it is better to forfeit inheritance of the earth so that the mighty may look upon my gamerscore, and despair. Achievements are for men who dream; men who dare; men who achieve! Men who carve out entire galaxies with nothing more than nimble cheetos-dusted fingers and their wits, and in our leisurely twilight days we shall sit by softly flickering fires with our descendants recounting the tales of these unimaginable glories.

Got to see a sneak peek of Taken 2 last night. As an action movie it's horrible. The plot is ridiculous, everything the character's do is illogical, and during the hand to hand fight scenes the camera cuts happen so fast you can't tell what's going on.

If you go into it looking at it as an action movie parody it's hilarious. The whole theater was laughing a lot during the last 3/4ths of the movie. Glad I got to see it for free.

I've noticed a lot of people talking about watching screeners...what company are you using? My wife and I heard about gofobo.com a bit ago and have watched a free movie every week for the last month.

Trouble with the Curve...I am a baseball guy, and although it was predicable it was a good movie. They have a lot of one liners with pretty dry humor but it was funny. I liked it. 3/5

Here Comes the Boom...The King of Queens guy (Kevin James) needs money for a school so he fights MMA. Again, utterly predicable/typical story but kept you interested and laughing. Same 3/5

Won't Back Down...a mom goes nuts and needs money to help the school. Does a really good job of getting you to relate and like the characters. Pretty decent date movie, don't know if I'd watch it again but didn't regret watching it the first time. 2/5

Argo...Ben Afleck new movie. Going to see it tomorrow.

Argo...HIGHLY Recommend. I know I kid about you being ancient, but were you old enough to actually remember details about that conflict?

I knew nothing about the Iran conflict from back then... completely new history to me but I do recognize photos of the old man. But the movie did a great job filling you in (I suspect the assumption is that most watching do not remember it). Plus while the credits were rolling at the end they showed comparative photos of actual events vs the movies setup / actors and it is incredible how much trouble they went through to make things incredibly accurate.

It was a great story, edge of your seat the whole time. Easily 4/5...

Argo fark yourself. laugh out loud

They should, it became the world craze and all the hype with knowledge that Empire was being made. Maybe not crazy hype like today, but comparatively speaking.

Resident Evil: Retribution - watched this last night and it's only 95 minutes and I actually liked it more than Afterlife. A couple of more video game characters are added and one re-introduced and I think it sets up for a good follow up movie. They usually keep the budget sensible so it always turns a profit so hopefully another one is in store as it honestly is a decent popcorn movie, nothing more.
