Last Edited by godfather927 February 27, 2012 at 11:54 AM
Thread to discuss movies of any type and date, but perhaps with more focus on recent ones in the past couple years.

Please be courteous to others when discussing a fairly recent movie with unexpected plot elements or endings, and always spoiler tag comments that could ruin the story for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet. When trying to decide whether or not to tag something, please err on the side of caution since even the mention that a certain movie has a twist (without divulging what it is) could end up being a mini-spoiler itself.

In case you don't already know how, you can spoiler tag any block of text with the following tags:

this tag goes at the end of the hidden text ~~~~>
this tag goes at the beginning of the hidden text ~~~~>
There is a backstory to that. I can't remember it exactly but he did that on purpose.

nod It was freakish and I hadn't read the backstory going in so I kept thinking "Well, that worked out well for you didn't it? Superior species my ass." Made more sense once I read more into it later after the fact.

watched Ted last night for the first time. I wouldn't say im a fan of Family Guy but I will watch it on occasion if it is on. Ted was a lot darker than I thought it would be.

Loved Ted. Just the type of idiotic, crude, and off the wall humor that I could watch all day.

I didn't use a spoiler tag because you just seam to take them for granite. But don't worry old chap, I'm hear to help you. For all intensive purposes, your probably relying on spell check a bit to much. But who knows, maybe this post is a blessing in the skies for other people who make similar mistakes, or maybe it's just a mute point and all for not.

Went to see Zero Dark Thirty on Saturday and it was pretty damn amazing. Not sure if it's gonna win best picture but i wouldnt be shocked if it actually did. Pretty intense action scenes and did a good job of portraying the main character's struggle, the build up to raid (which was awesome), and the powerful closing scenes.

Want to see it again but will probably have to wait until blu-ray.

Achievements are not for the meek, it is better to forfeit inheritance of the earth so that the mighty may look upon my gamerscore, and despair. Achievements are for men who dream; men who dare; men who achieve! Men who carve out entire galaxies with nothing more than nimble cheetos-dusted fingers and their wits, and in our leisurely twilight days we shall sit by softly flickering fires with our descendants recounting the tales of these unimaginable glories.

Saw Gangster Squad during a "team building" exercise this afternoon with my mentor. Now I want a Thompson submachine-gun. Typical gangster story but I still enjoyed it. Kind of reminded me of The Untouchables or Road To Perdition.

Saw the new Die Hard movie yesterday, I would recommend you save it for a rental in the even you want to see it. The story was overblown even for a Die Hard movie.

I watched Right At Your Door [imdb.com] this weekend. I believe Skeeza was the one who suggested I watch it. Pretty interesting. Very low-budget. Seemed like quite a realistic story for the scenario - Los Angeles is hit with a few "dirty" bombs. There was not a whole lot of action, but the movie was suspenseful and tense in more then a few spots. I enjoyed it. Thanks Skeeza! hug

Ah yes.. I forgot to bump this thread yesterday after I saw the movie. The story was weak, it certainly was no Die Hard 1 or 3, but it was still enjoyable. The villain is forgettable and the character development is weak, but it jumps right into the action. If you in for a nice, short, action packed movie, go see it. I'd give it a 6/10.

I saw "The Lucky Ones" a couple days ago. If you need constant action or laugh out loud comedy, this movie isn't for you. The movie had just enough humor and change in scenery (road trip movie) to keep me interested. I would recommend it.

The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey - Well I'll give Peter Jackson one thing, he doesn't do half hearted, half rate, or watered down versions of any adaptations of scripts put to film. The Hobbit was no different than King Kong or the LOTR series. It was big, extravagant, rich, delightful, humorous, serious, and awe-inspiring. Did I forget to mention it was really effin long too? I'm sure this was the slimmed down version of the movie at 2 hours and 49 minutes, but damn it didn't feel like it. Loved the visuals, story, and yeah it had its slow parts but so what? He's telling a story so shut up, crunch popcorn, and enjoy it. I've read several forums state how boring it was in comparison to LOTR and its pacing and I'm wondering what the hell they are talking about or what movie they saw. The Orc chase, the escape from Goblinville, the flashbacks of the Dwarf demise, and of course the present day Dwarfs themselves make this well worth watching. I refuse to buy it on Blu-ray though Nono2 until he comes out with all 3 Hobbit movies in extended platinum style. But that's a review for another day.
I've never seen you post on here, and it's likely the reverse its true as well, but after reading your assessment of this movie one fact has become glaringly, painfully true - we are at opposite sides of the spectrum and if I could, figuratively speaking of course, silently fire a bullet through the back of your neck and end you with no risk of reprisal I would do so a thousand times over.

Let me be frank - YOU are the problem.

YOU are the reason production companies, studio houses and directors feel they can squirt out whatever runny puddle of dogshit they like with impunity because THEY CAN since YOU are always there to pick up the tab and throw them a buck regardless. YOU are responsible for every Will Smith movie, The Hangover 2, 2012, Donnie Darko, Ocean's 19, Return of the Jedi, Be Cool, Four Brothers, Scream 1-5, Prometheus, Die Hard 3, Live Free or Die Hard, A Good Day to Die Hard, Die Hard To Handle, Die Hard v. Space 2: The Glistening, The Expendables, Cars, The Pianist, and a thousand other dribbly plops of "cinema." Well, perhaps you weren't the catalyst for that last example but sure as shit YOU ARE THE TARGET AUDIENCE FOR JAR JAR BINKS.

Yes. YOU did that.

Thanks. I'll see you in Hell. From my vantage point in Black Heaven. And I'll be sure to catch any small tears of compassion that might escape my eyes lest they fall upon you and ease the burning of your soul for even the briefest moment.
