Thread Details

Thread to discuss movies of any type and date, but perhaps with more focus on recent ones in the past couple years.

Please be courteous to others when discussing a fairly recent movie with unexpected plot elements or endings, and always spoiler tag comments that could ruin the story for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet. When trying to decide whether or not to tag something, please err on the side of caution since even the mention that a certain movie has a twist (without divulging what it is) could end up being a mini-spoiler itself.

In case you don't already know how, you can spoiler tag any block of text with the following tags:

this tag goes at the end of the hidden text ~~~~>
this tag goes at the beginning of the hidden text ~~~~>
Man, I saw The Seventh Seal in the theater, on a super huge screen not too long ago. New print and everything. Amazing.
Last movie I saw was Slither. Funny and gory and gross. I loved it.

Watched Zero Dark Thirty on Sunday. It was good. Pretty much just like the book 'No Easy Day'. The movie followed closely on the account of the CIA agent that spent 12+ years trying to find OBL. One thing I did find that differed between the two was... The SEAL's didn't know ahead of time that they were training for an infiltration of the suspected OBL compound. In the movie the CIA told them right away before they had nearly as much intel to even think about going in. You also didnt see any of the mock training the SEAL's did in NC before the mission was approved.

I also have The Hobbit & Life of Pi to watch soon.

Oh and American Reunion is pretty damn hilarious. Def not an "I'll watch this until I fall asleep'' type of movie. Didnt get to bed until 3am I think! Even though I had seen it once before.

Watched a pre-screener of THE CALL last night with Halle Berry and Jack Breslin's granddaughter (I think...need to check my facts on that). GF should hopefully get that one

Great Movie. Seriously, edge of my seat the whole time. There were these ladies in front of me, that literally did one of those "throw your popcorn into the air you are so shocked" moves. laugh out loud With any horror flick, there were those obvious "BITCH DON'T GO IN THERE!!!" moments, when she still does what no one would do because she is stupid. But it did a great job of keeping you guessing throughout the entire movie.

Identity Thief - Watched this and forgot to critique it but loved the movie overall. Jason Batemen does his classic babyface roll similar to his character in Arrested Development. Melissa McCarthy is as fun as always just like in Mike and Molly. It's a fun watch. Only thing I didn't like about it was that they want you to believe identity thieves have a sympathetic streak? They're identity thieves for a reason and it's not because they care about who they hustle. Great watch though anyway.

Apocalypse Now Redux
The protagonist's voice was endlessly annoying. Very silly war movie.

Finally watched The Fighter last night on TV. decent movie about Mickey Ward. I liked him as a boxer IRL but damn he has a messed up family. I also liked Bale's performance of Dickie Eklund.

Christian Bale was crazy in that movie. Did you watch the real-life interviews during the credits? It was scary how well he portrayed his character. I really enjoyed that movie.

I didn't see the credits cuz it was on cable last night but I remember seeing the HBO documentary High On Crack Street that followed Dickie Eklund's crack addiction for like 18 months and yeah, Bale was a dead ringer for Eklund. Bale is one of my fav actors.

I did read where Dickie originally hated how junked up Bale looked playing his part. Saying something to the point of the movie producers made Micky look like a million bucks and they made me look like a two dollar bill.

His sisters also hated their portrayal as well. And for good reason cuz them bitches were busted up!

I'll give you that exception to Bats. It was def waaay over the top. I wonder if his throat got all raw & scratchy from talking scratchy?

American Psycho
Terminator Salvation (I really liked this one, especially since Sam Worthington was in it, he's really good, too IMO.)

The Machinist... for those that saw it, christ that dude got rail thin for the part. Like super anorexic thin. To see him get skinny as fark for that part (as well as Dickie in The Fighter) then to bounce back and be stacked as hell for his next part. People like that amaze me. I mean in that movie The Machinist, when he was cutting, he had to be like IM KILLING MYSELF! Dude is dedicated for sure.
