Thread to discuss movies of any type and date, but perhaps with more focus on recent ones in the past couple years.

Please be courteous to others when discussing a fairly recent movie with unexpected plot elements or endings, and always spoiler tag comments that could ruin the story for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet. When trying to decide whether or not to tag something, please err on the side of caution since even the mention that a certain movie has a twist (without divulging what it is) could end up being a mini-spoiler itself.

In case you don't already know how, you can spoiler tag any block of text with the following tags:

this tag goes at the end of the hidden text ~~~~>
this tag goes at the beginning of the hidden text ~~~~>
any of you guys watch "Requiem For A Dream" by Darren Aronofsky (who also did Pi and Black Swan amongst others)? I loved that movie. Plus Jennifer Connelly is in and she does a anal to anal dildo scene (no joke) but they don't really show anything but her facial expression in that scene.

The scene is basically a dark room filled with corporate suits and two close to naked chicks on their hands and knees on a table surrounded by the suits. One of the older dudes yells out, "ASS TO ASS!!" (pretty sure he's holding the massive dildo when he says this) to which the rest of the suits cheer heartily in agreement. laugh out loud

But even if that scene wasn't in the movie I'd recommend it over Black Swan (which I thought was good not great). Great use of music and pretty awesome direction IMO.
Requiem was Aronofsky at his best. He also did the Wrestler which was mediocre but strangely endearing.

Requiem definitely left a lasting impact after I watched it and could be one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. In comparison, I did not like Black Swan at all. Been meaning to see Pi as I've heard good things.

As much as I love movies, I don't think I could stomach watching something like The Artist. Both black & white AND also silent? Hmm, no thanks.

Achievements are not for the meek, it is better to forfeit inheritance of the earth so that the mighty may look upon my gamerscore, and despair. Achievements are for men who dream; men who dare; men who achieve! Men who carve out entire galaxies with nothing more than nimble cheetos-dusted fingers and their wits, and in our leisurely twilight days we shall sit by softly flickering fires with our descendants recounting the tales of these unimaginable glories.

Me and my ex sat down to watch Black Swan when were still together. We got through the first bizzare 10 minutes and we both agreed there was no need to watch any more.

It's kind of hard to get a hold of, but if yall can find a way to see Splinterheads [imdb.com] it's damn funny.

Opening Weekend: $10,515 (USA) (8 November 2009) (1 Screen)

That sounds like a HS movie...super duper indie. I know why he says it is hard to find...

Ratings mean nothing! A girl I know said it was her favorite movie so I got it and we watched it. I'd never heard of it before then. It's very much an indie movie. Most indie movies' I've seen are kinda funny; this one is actually funny. Amazon instant's got it for a $3.99 rental. The DVD is $9.18.

"its so bad"

If you guys are into science fiction movies about time travel that will leave you wondering what the hell happened ala momento, you should definitely check out Primer. Independent film about a group of tech guys who develop a machine in their garage.

edit: I will get back in here when I have more time this weekend to drop some more knowledge on all you philistines.

I think everyone owes it to themselves to watch it, although you really need to go into it knowing full well you will probably be lost halfway through it. It is one of those movies you watch over and over and it gets clearer. Definitely one of the best concepts I have ever seen in an independent film though. I wasn't able to find a copy so I ended up watching it in segments on YouTube.

The lady and I watched "Book of Eli" a few days ago. I had seen it before but she hadn't. I'm sure most of you have seen it. Personally, I enjoyed "The Road" better but that's mostly because I read the book beforehand.

Both are very good movies. I think I enjoyed the Book of Eli just a bit better (despite being less realistic) probably because of the cinematography and the "cool" factor some of the scenes had. Plus I prefer the Denzel/Oldman acting combo to that of Viggo/the kid's.
