Our take on the JVC KD-X50BT
by Zak Billmeier
Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.
your description goes here

Built-in Bluetooth(R) gives you lots of options
You may know that Bluetooth lets you talk hands-free in your car, but JVC's KD-X50BT digital media receiver also allows you to receive text messages and stream music, depending on your phone's features. Even better, all you iPhone(R), Android(TM) and Blackberry(TM) users can now control your favorite PANDORA(R) Internet Radio stations right from this stereo's front panel.

Special Android(TM) features
Android(TM) and Blackberry(TM) users can control PANDORA(R) right from the stereo through the Bluetooth connection -- no wires needed. And JVC's Android app lets you use your compatible Android phone's touchscreen to control the action using finger swipes and gestures -- for example, make an upside-down "V" to change the source. So pop your Android phone in a mount, and you can reach down and skip a track without taking your eyes off the road.

Keep two phones connected
The KD-X50BT's built-in Bluetooth lets you pair two phones at once -- no need to choose between your personal and business phones. When a call comes in, the receiver will blink either blue or red, so you'll know at a glance if your call is coming from home or the office. To answer a call, just tap the volume knob.

Do more with your USB connection
JVC upped the power in their USB port, which lets you keep a smartphone charged while it's performing many battery-draining tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to your phone's internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another.

Separated Variable Color display
The KD-X50BT looks pretty cool, too. Its display lets you set colors for your controls independent from those on the screen -- so create your own custom color scheme, match your dash lighting perfectly, or just let it cycle through over 30,000 hues for an ever-changing look.

Two USB slots for maximum convenience
JVC has obviously given some thought to usability, giving you front and rear USB inputs for connecting gear. The included Bluetooth adapter slides into one slot, so you'll still have one free. But if you don't need the Bluetooth, your options open up. For instance, if you're an iPhone user, you can run a USB cable from the receiver's rear input into your glovebox or a console, then connect your iPhone and stow it safely away. You still have the front USB slot for connecting other devices on the fly or playing tunes you've loaded on a USB thumb drive. Maybe you've got other ways to use the two inputs, but now it's your choice.

Build a system
If you've got plans to build a complete car audio system, the KD-X50BT is a great place to start. You'll appreciate the two sets of preamp outputs when it's time to add amps and subs -- switch the rear outputs over to subwoofer mode and you'll be able to tweak your bass right from your dash. You'll also get a handy auxiliary input for hooking up more gear, like a Dock & Play satellite radio.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Bluetooth compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

Try 3A171

It is $20 off $100 if you pay with Visa. However, I used M/C and it worked.

Good luck and Thanks OP.

Anyone know why the max volume is 30 sometimes and 30+ (believe 50 is the max) sometimes? Not sure if this is only on certain sources (bluetooth, aux, etc)? Nevermind figured it out, its the amp gain. set to low for 30 and high for 50 being the max.

I have a different JVC model but if you have the settings with hi-power [separate amp] the volume goes to 50.

Do you have the ability to search music on a USB or is it played by order store on the drive.

I did some test on behalf of JVC to test USB hub on Rear USB port. I run 20 different test cases with different scenarios, and everything works flawlessly.

I have tested the USB hub in rear USB port. I run JVC's rear USB cable to my gloves compartment. Then attached USB hub with 4 ports. In one port I have BT adapter came with the receiver and in second port I have attached USB flash drive with lots of music files.

When you turn on Car receiver, it shows USB Rear and BT Rear under Sources.
It plays music from the USB flash drive and all BT functionality(Talk, Stream music, dial call from Phone, dial call from receiver, etc) works as advertise.

Now i can avoid cable cluster in front, and use BT and USB music player from my Glove compartment.

I am not sure what's not working that JVC has to advertise this unit as USB hub not supported.
mailtoal,
I went by your comment and my JVC Head Unit worked as expected!
I run a JVC KD-R736BT in my Swift and use a 16 gigs pen drive on the front and wanted to reap the benefit of powering the rear USB with another 16 gigs pen drive.
I connected the USB hub to the rear and powered the bluetooth adapter and the 16 gigs USB drive. Both of them, plus the front USB drive also work flawlessly.
So when I toggle between the sources, I see the following:
1. USB Front
2. USB Rear
3. BT Rear

Not sure why JVC manual says that we should not be using a USB hub.

Many Thanks again!
