I was going with a Crucial for my first SSD, but screw it I'll try this one for the money. Had a gift card to use up at Newegg anyway.

I've been looking for a cheaper sata2 ssd like this. If only it had more reviews. Anyone have one that can comment on actual speeds?

I have used a Samsung 830 and this OCZ Agility 3. For normal usage (i run VM with Linux), i didnt see any significant difference in speed. Matter of fact, my Windows media experience score with Samsung 830 was 7.1 and OCZ Agility 3 had a score of 7.6 .

Granted, my mobo is still at SATA II speed, but i am using SATA III, So I won't realize the ultra-fast transfer rate. I bought this OCZ last week in tigerdirect deal for the same price (after rebate). While i am waiting out on a 512GB SSD to fall below $350, this is the cheapest i found


Edit: I didn't realize this is SATA II. The one i bought in tigerdirect was SATA III. My comment applies for OCZ Agilty 3 (SATA III).

I would have bit at this price on the Crucial FP, but definitely not an OCZ.

Might not matter to some, but fyi,this is sata 2, not 3

I don't understand, why do you guys compare this to a crucial m4? This Octane is at about 83 cents per GB. It is unrealistic to assume that you can get an M4 for that price. The crucial M4 is currently at $175 for the 128gb ssd, its not even close to the same price category as the Octane.

With some cashback shenanigans it was even less, down to $110-$120.

This price ($150) has popped up more than once in the last 10 days, and you don't have to deal with a rebate. It's up to you if the rebate and the "free" USB drive are worth it to you, especially considering that it appears the M4 is much more highly-regarded.

I totally agree with you. This thing looks like Agility 2 performance at nearly Agility 3 prices. The performance isn't top tier, but the pricing just isn't good enough--just like the lousy Kingston drives that go FP for $0.9/GB.
