We got the filter free Vicks humidifier and returned it after a month...I know it's now what the OP posted but these filter free humidifiers are all the same and don't work. They split the water into fine drops and hope it evaporates into the air before hitting the floor. It's better to get the hassle of the filter rather than the water damage, mold, or mildew on the floor.

On low they produce very little water on the floor, but on high it soaks the floor. The first night we got the filter free humidifier we put it in our son's room and left it on medium speed and tank full of water. When we went in to his room in the morning we were sloshing in his room with about a 4 foot diameter around the humidifier and the tank was empty. We got our carpet cleaner out and soaked up most of the water. We turned it on low the next night and only had mildly wet floors but anything above low caused major issues in regards to water on the floor.

Spring and go for a filter humidifier or get a true vaporizer. The old school one are best where it's a heating element hanging in a tub of water. As unsafe as it sounds and the 2nd degree burns it causes if you put your hand in the mist...it's still tried and true- works for sick kids!

I wished that this was posted earlier. I order a different crane version just yesterday that gives out warm mist and only holds 1 gallon(7-8hrs) for $34. The one op posted is 2.3 gallon so it should last awhile before you need to add more water.

Got this [amazon.com] Crane humidifier a few months ago and am happy with it. Although it doesn't look as good as the Drop shape humidifiers, holds only 1 gallon and cleaning is a pain, it works well. It outputs a fine mist. The design also avoids the damping of the surrounding area.

I picked up one of these a couple of months ago, it sits on my night stand and we use it at night to help combat the low humidity in the winter. My night stand isn't wet at all, so the comment that it makes the floor wet isn't applicable with this unit. It makes a difference for us, as without using it we get bloody noses from the dryness and with it they go away.

I would actually pass on this humidifier. The build quality has decreased greatly and the current model we have has something wrong with it. It won't turn on properly and makes a loud buzzing noise. Turning it on/off 10-20 times seems to work but there is something not right. I'm going to tear it apart at some point and see if I can fix it.

Its the same capacity. All Crane humidifiers hold only 1 gallon, but their expected mist output is 2.3 gallons. Its confusing.

Seems that the warm mist version outputs more gallon moisture per day, 4 gallon vs 2.3 gallon.

I got this unit last year, since there's no filters required, be sure to use soft water for the unit otherwise it will produce a cloud of white dust on the surface of everything in the room. And yes, the spring rusted within 2 weeks, but it has been working fine after replacing the spring with one of the dead crane we had from years ago.

soft water did not "fix" the problem for us... we have a water softner but a softner does not take the hard minerals out of the water, it converts them to something else but stuff is still there waiting to be spewed into your air....
