I was thinking an XBox 360 Console for $95. How do they charge this much for an XBox 360? My $250 laptop has comparable gaming power. I really am shocked that console prices have hardly fallen in the last 3 years.

I know that for Microsoft, they generally don't make any money on the sale of 360's, they are lucky to break even. It's more about the sale of the xbox live memberships, games, and accessories they make. Even though employees get really good discounts on all that other stuff, they don't get discounts on the 360.

They may have lost money at launch, but I'm nearly certain they earn a profit nowadays. Add up the parts and don't forget they're manufactured on what was mainstream 4 years ago, not the latest and most expensive 22nm processes:
CPU: $40 (much weaker than a Pentium G860 that Intel sells for ~$50)
Mobo w/ Graphics: $45 lowend foxconn or similar
RAM: $15
HDD: $10 (only 4GB!)
PSU: $12 (considering a CX430 is $17)
DVD: $16
Case: $9 (cheap tiny & plastic)
O/S: $0
TOTAL: $147

I'm pretty sure I'm being generous with the CPU, mobo, PSU, DVD, & case prices. Anyhow, they sell it for $199, so I'm sure they earn a profit.

My step-brother works for MS making the Forza series games, and he tried to get me a 320GB HD and could only get it for $100 with his discount. Some games they get for very cheap (if it's a MS exclusive), but sadly they don't get a huge discount on some stuff. In fact I just ordered a HD from Newegg b/c it was cheaper than he could get it for.

Amazon now has this for $94.99, but ships within 2-3 weeks.
