I was just working out plans for a trip to NYC, including a visit to the museum. This is a really good deal, even better than their regular Family Membership. Thanks for posting!

Great deal!

Just a little tip for those who may just be visiting the museum once and don't need the tickets to Journey Of The Stars - the museum admission is technically pay what you wish. You will be granted entry if you only want to pay $1 to see the regular exhibits.

This is a great deal for people who live in the city or nearby, but for tourists who would only visit once, just letting you know you can get in cheaper than this Groupon (it's an additional $20 for a ticket to an IMAX or Space Show).

Wait, if I recall, isn't admission based on donations? I don't recall a fixed price.

The MET is donation based. Museum of Natural History is most definitely not.

General Admission
Adult - $19
Child - $10.50

General Admission + one special (Butterflies OR Imax OR Space show but NOT Journey to the Stars)
Adult - $25
Child - $14.50

SuperSaver + all specials
Adult - $33
Child - $20.50

For 2 adults + 2 children, general admission alone is usually $59.
For 2 adults + 2 children, general admin + butterflies is usually $69.
For 2 adults + 2 children, general admin + all (full day) is usually $107.

Note, these prices don't include the $2 fee (each ticket) for purchasing online. Mmm...convenience fees.

This is clearly a great deal even if you plan to spend one day there out of the year.
(Don't forget you get discounts at the cafe & gift shops too!)

Me either. $19 was a suggested donation when I went last summer. I paid $5.

Thanks for confirming! I knew I wasn't crazy. Yes, they have a suggested donation fee, but you can pay whatever you want. So, this deal is really not a deal at all. Pay what you want.

You are incorrect. They suggest a $19 donation, but you can give whatever you want.

yeah, I believe AMNH is "pay what you want." I went there with a bunch of friends one or two months ago. Even though the sign had prices of $19+, i asked the cashier if i could just pay $1 and she said yes.

Well I'll be. I learned something new today!

However, I'm still going to call this a bona-fide good deal for NY families that go even twice to AMNH.

Quote :
Should you wish to pay less than the suggested Museum admission and attend a special exhibition, IMAX film, or Hayden Planetarium Space Show, you may do so by purchasing tickets at any admissions desk at the Museum and by adding $22 per adult, $12 per child, and $18 per senior or student to the amount you wish to pay for general admission.

The family level membership offers:
Quote :
•Unlimited complimentary general admission and special exhibition tickets for one or two adults and up to four children under the age of 18
•Four adult and 8 child complimentary seasonal live-animal exhibits or IMAX films
The 4 adult imax/butterfly tickets alone are worth $88. 8 children tickets are worth $96.
...then add unlimited entry to the special exhibitions.
...then get 15% off cafe & 10% off shop purchases.

I still call this a very good deal whether the general admission is pay-what-you-will or not. The additional perks offered in this package are well worth the small investment and make perfect sense for my family and many other NY families who go to the museum even twice.
