Best brokerage for individual investor

I recently moved all my stock sector of my portfolio from TD into Merrill Edge because I qualify for free 30 trades/month. after that it's 6.95/trade.
No annual fee...so I figure I just saved hundreds or maybe a thousand dollars lol.

Donno much about Merrill's system, but I kept TD for ETF & MF trades so i can still do research there.

I know lotta peopel like IB & TradeKing but I don't trade alot so those are out...
It seems like a good idea for intermediate or long term investors, so just letting you guys know. If you guys know any downside of using Merrill Edge please give me some feedbacks too.

I personally invest with Schwab. I agree that the trade commissions might be a bit higher than other banks, but I am using it for growth rather than constant trades since I am still young and have many years ahead of me. I really like the ETFs for short term investments as there is a decent selection that trades commission free.

If Merrill Edge works for you, that's awesome. If I had that much money to invest and was able to take advantage of that offer, I might do it as well. I just personally feel that otherwise, the trading fees are high for small investors and their ETF selection is a bit lacking.

I use Scottrade but I'm a little biased since I worked there my last year of college.

The best brokerage is going to vary by person. Some want customer service, others want an advanced platform and access to tons of info they will never know how to properly use, while other (like me) care mostly about transaction costs involved with trading.

You can't really beat 30 free trades a month. That should be more than most people would need for a year. I don't know how ME is with options, but other places cater specifically to those.

I don't trade more than 30times/month, hence those are out. So IB's monthly maintenance fee is a disadvantage for me
