Yeah, no kidding! I still had dates my parents never knew about and stuff, though. But that's because my dad was a lot like Chewy, and I wouldn't dare subject any guy I liked to an overprotective psychopath.

^^^^^ THAT is so true. Of course boundries and rules are a must.

IMO, letting you kids know that they can tell you anything, no matter how bad - and listen and be understanding while teaching them why what they did was wrong and guide them in the right direction - instead of telling them how bad they are and closing your ears to them works much better.

Do that a few times, keep your promises, and they will trust you, and may even come to you before they do the wrong thing to ask advise. There is nothing wrong with treating a child like a human being.
