you guys are totally missing my point.

fire someone for doing something they are legally allowed to do, because they're an adult. having done these legal things before they were even in a position of authority at a school, it seems to me that those things they did as an adult have no bearing on their abilitiy to teach.

meanwhile, we've got middle schoolers looking at porn and telling people they saw their teacher having sex online.

teacher gets fired. everyone rejoices because a PORN STAR is out of the school system. yet no one seems concerned that middle schoolers are watching porn?!?! really? come on now.

California is an at-will state. She doesn't have a "right" to keep her job after it's found out she's starred in multiple hardcore porn videos that could affect students' perception of her. She has a right to do whatever she chooses. She doesn't have the right to maintain employment after it comes out she's done it, though.

But the reality is they are exposed to porn so if you want to be a teacher you should not choose to become a porn actress.

I assume anyone applying to be a teacher has some kind of background check. This type of past activity may be against policy for hiring. So, they missed it in the background check. Well, she had a different "name" and probably was working for some skeez place that pays under the table....yada. If it is a rule then she would have been asked and I guess she lied? Of couse she did.

You mention image that needs to be maintained. When I was going through the hiring process for the PD I had hours of questioning, a lie detector test, and investigations where people I was in Junior High school were contacted for any information. Now, I understand that the background check in this field extensive and can't be compared to that of a teacher. But it's the same idea. If they would have found out 2 years later that I lied about something that would have disqualified me for hire, I would have been fired. Union or not...that was the rules.

Again, I don't know what their rules are to work there as a teacher, but with the disruption this is already causing....I would say it should be if it is not.

Sometimes things you do in life may prevent you from working in a particular field. Sometimes there are rules and that's just the way it goes. The reasons are obvious.

IIRC, a teacher was recently fired for complaining about her students on her facebook account. That's perfectly legal, too! Should she not have been fired also?

WHAT YOU DO OUTSIDE OF YOUR JOB CAN AFFECT YOUR JOB, especially with things posted on the internet for all to see, and especially if your job requires you working with and teaching children. Come on now, this shouldn't be news.

I mean, I get that you want to prove your point Mal, and I get that you want everyone to agree with you. But suggesting that "oh they're kids, it's just what they do" and not acknowledging that the parents in this case are just as much to blame for allowing their kids to discover this stuff? That's just bordering on pathetic.

You plan on letting your kid surf for porn in the next couple years? No point in protecting him from that, let him watch anal DP and homosexual orgies, whatever he wants, right? After all, it's not all that shocking. I mean, you should expect it from kids that age!

You make good points. There are a LOT of things they look for; they don't just search exclusively for things that are illegal.
