Info about the free trial:
- You must be beyond your free 30 days to invite people.
- You get 3 invitations to give out.
- When the invitations/trials expire, you get more.
- Invitation must be used within 14 days or it gets revoked.
- Trial appears to be unrestricted except that you can't progress to the point where you get your ship.
- This restricts you to the first 4 zones.
- Without a ship, you can't play any of the space content.
- Buying the game and subscribing ends your trial time immediately.
That's enough to get you off your starter planet, introduce the joy of companions, hook you into the story with a major plot twist, choose your advanced class, and get started with the crafting/gathering crew skills.
Existing accounts are not eligible for trial time.
In order to send an invite: the sender needs the recipients email address.

They have changed the game so that the its free to play to level 15. No time limit. http://www.swtor.com/support/helpcenter/6274

Glad they started this- I've been on the fence since it was released--I'd rather give it a try before dropping $40-50 ish just to start!

Read reviews, and be careful with this. This game is great until you hit max level. Then things get super boring. Almost every negative review you can read reflects this.
Now, the hitch: I was in the launch batch. I kept tabs on the first few people to reach max level. I wasn't with them. Then the next few, and the next, and the next. Then I got there. My /played time was close to six days. Most people I asked were between five and six days. Most of you won't play 24/7. Please keep in mind that, although you may well enjoy the week-long trial period, your time below max level is not a good indicator of what the game will be like at max game level. If you decide to buy, make your assessment of the game's value based on the experience up to max level--not what you expect the game to be like after you've hit max level. Buy this like you would a single player game. It plays more like one than an MMO. |

What MMo's have good content when you are max level? Most games I have tried (max level) players are standing around talking to each other.
