Deal Details

Turn your phone into a free WiFi or Bluetooth hotspot without paying tethering charges or Hotspot charges. Uses your normal data. Works on most devices, see the link below. I'm able to tether to both a laptop and iPad with ~3Mbps download speeds on 3G.

This can be a substantial monthly savings, depending on your carrier. For example, AT&T charges at least $20/month and both Verizon and Sprint charge between $20-30/month depending on your phone (3G or 4G). This doesn't include tax and other fees.

At least $240/year savings!!! Better get this app before it is pulled from the market (Google Play).

FoxFi - New on Google Play (new name for Android Market).

https://play.google.com/store/app...=com.foxfi

Per their info
"Enables WiFi or Bluetooth Hotspot on your Android phone without a Hotspot plan from your carrier. No rooting required! Just install and turn it on. Bluetooth mode works for all phones. WiFi mode currently works on most Samsung phones and Motorola phones, LG Optimus/Vortex/Ally, ZTE N762, HuaWei Comet. WiFi mode does NOT work on any HTC phones or the first Motorola Droid/Triumph, use Bluetooth mode instead.

You can connect from any tablets or computers. Access Point is infrastructure mode with WPA2 security. FoxFi usage is covered under the same phone data plan you have."

This may be better placed in Freebies, but it is such a great deal, I put it here. Enjoy!

My Samsung Slidekick 4G, have this setting by default, and my is 4G ... Hahaha... IT's FREE.. I'm T-Mobile.
It's up to how to phone 's room / firmware... Some of them T-mobile can charge $$$, but if your phone come with firmware have setting by default, it's free

I have a G2 with the wifi hotspot option in my phone and I was told i would have to add the smartphone hotspot plan at $14.99. I did try to see if it worked and it did, but that was before they said it cost $14.99 per month.

Yes. Buy an Android phone, then tether your iphone to it. LMAO
if you buy 4G RAZR Maxx -->

Since the Android phone is 4G, can can get 10—40MB wifi tether speed on iPhone.

Not a bad idea. SmilieSmilieSmilieSmilie:-)

Agreed. The weird thing is the original thread has a rating score of +284 and over 55,000 views in only 24 hours, but the thread now fails to show up in the Popular Deals (by votes) or Trending Deals (by activity) categories.

Also, as you mentioned, since it is now moved and buried in a sub-forum of the freebies forum, it does not come up from a home page search, therefore most users will never see it.
Yep. If a thread is started in or moved to a different forum or sub-forum other than Hot Deals, it does not populate Popular Deals or Trending Deals, as these categories only pull from the Hot Deals forum. What a shame, as this deal, which has the potential save users hundreds per year, will not be seen by most site visitors.

After being buried in the subforum in the freebies category, the thread abruptly died. 55K views in Hot Deals in less than 24 hours, and only 2500 views in the Free Digital Goods subforum in the next 24 hours, where it will succumb to death.

Congrats to those who were able to catch the thread before it was moved. Enjoy the savings.

Well, I understand why it was moved but most people won't find it due to the default search not checking that forum. Probably not a bad idea to simply leave this thread up to point back to it. I would have thought some conspiracy was taking place if I wouldn't have found it again in a search. Wink
I never found it until it was posted here.

Ironically I downloaded it anyhow for free like 2 days ago, the app freakin pwns.

will this work on a Sprint EVO 4g? I would like to use my touchpad at work where there is no WiFi.
At this point you should just root your Evo 4G, we aren't going to get ICS anyway. Once it's rooted you can either use the android wifi tether [google.com] app or any one of the many custom roms that have included wifi tether.

I keep getting the IP address issue also, I tried it on 3 phones all had the same problem heh. Imma try to toggle it like someone mentioned earlier. Also going to try the bluetooth DUN.

Phones tested:
Samsung Intercept(Virgin Mobile, froyo, rooted running pandemic ROM)
LG Esteem(metroPCS, stock gingerbread)
Samsung Admire(metro PCS gingerbread)

Anyone succesfull with this on samsung intercept ? For me, it says hotspot active on my rooted intercept and I can see the SSID on my computer....It tries to connect and always say 'Obtaining Adress'..and never connects Frown
Download "barnacle tether" from the market, it works perfectly on my intercept.
I don't get any extra charges either. Only downside is that you can only use it on computers and not other androids.

To get it to work turn off wifi on your phone, then start up barnicle, it will give you an error but just choose ok. Then chose start it again, it will turn on the hotspot, on your computer find the barnacle SSID and choose connect. Now on your phone it should pop up choose "associate" and you're done!

As for your phones internet download "opera mini", it's almost 100 times faster than any other browser you can get on that phone. Also the pandemic ROM is a night and day difference on that phone, you also get the ICS 4.0 look with it Smilie

Thank you.
I have my 2.2 intercept rooted but does not have any custom ROM. I tried all possible hotspot app out there including barnacle but , always, when the hotspot is activated my 3G gets disconnected. (I assume pandemic ROM may fix this issue)

But..FoxFi finally worked on my Intercept. and I could conenct to it from Win XP and Blackberry Tablet. It sometimes take 2 or 3 tries.

thanks! i only tried it once and it didn't work so i'll try it again, barnacle never shuts down my internet.

the ROM doesn't have anything to do with it since I ran it when I had the stock one also.

Here's some screenshots of the ROM, I can't express how much faster and smoother the phone is. The stock one kept driving me crazy because it would freeze all the time and it was slow as hell also.

But that has more to do with the stupid cap that virgin mobile put on the CPU, which I still haven't been able to unlock.

You know...I kind of understood why the carriers were very against tethering with unlimited data plans.

Now that most are moving to fixed "buckets" like 2GB and 4GB, I don't see why it matters!

The data will be used one way or another, why does it matter if I'm using my laptop now?!?

At least Verizon doesn't do it on their tablets (yet at&t still does. But at&t sucks anyway so, yeah).

Seriously. The data is mine, I paid for it. Let me determine how to use it. That would be like the gas station limiting where you can drive with the gas you just bought.
