Turn your phone into a free WiFi or Bluetooth hotspot without paying tethering charges or Hotspot charges. Uses your normal data. Works on most devices, see the link below. I'm able to tether to both a laptop and iPad with ~3Mbps download speeds on 3G.

This can be a substantial monthly savings, depending on your carrier. For example, AT&T charges at least $20/month and both Verizon and Sprint charge between $20-30/month depending on your phone (3G or 4G). This doesn't include tax and other fees.

At least $240/year savings!!! Better get this app before it is pulled from the market (Google Play).

FoxFi - New on Google Play (new name for Android Market).

https://play.google.com/store/app...=com.foxfi

Per their info
"Enables WiFi or Bluetooth Hotspot on your Android phone without a Hotspot plan from your carrier. No rooting required! Just install and turn it on. Bluetooth mode works for all phones. WiFi mode currently works on most Samsung phones and Motorola phones, LG Optimus/Vortex/Ally, ZTE N762, HuaWei Comet. WiFi mode does NOT work on any HTC phones or the first Motorola Droid/Triumph, use Bluetooth mode instead.

You can connect from any tablets or computers. Access Point is infrastructure mode with WPA2 security. FoxFi usage is covered under the same phone data plan you have."

This may be better placed in Freebies, but it is such a great deal, I put it here. Enjoy!

Hi,

The HTC version of Android systems are currently built with a special wifi hotspot lock. Unfortunately we are not able to bypass that lock without a tether plan. The good news is that we have added a Bluetooth Mode in Foxfi which allows you to get internet access wirelessly through Bluetooth. Please give that a shot and hopefully this can be useful to you.

Thanks again for using our product
Team Foxfi

edit: Alternatively you can root your phone and have access to these functions by default. Look on XDA developers forums for instructions. The wifi hotspot ability has been native to many versions for... years at this point.

Most Android phones have a custom ROM which comes with WiFi Hotspot by default. I don't really see the advantage of this unless you don't want to root your phone or install a custom ROM.
which is EXACTLY the advantage.
most dont know how or dont want to root their phones
so getting this as a free app instead of rooting a phone is a good deal

When I activate the app. on my Samsung Infuse (AT&T), the inherent app. on the phone "Mobile AP" pops up and displays the message "A Tethering/Mobile Hotspot plan is required to use this service. Please go to att.com/myWireless or dial 611 if you do not already have this service provisioned."

The Mobile AP checkbox is not highlighted. I guess this means I am not using the phone's tethering app. and thus am not charged?

Downloaded Fox-Fi last week works perfectly...Supposedly doesn't put you on your Hotspot plan which I hope I don't get charged Data Fees for using my phone as a Hot Spot Smilie
