"We are targeting WD hard drive throughput to approach 60 percent, 80 percent and 100 percent of pre-flood production volumes in the March, June and September quarters, respectively." https://primoitrap.wordpress.com/...-recovery/ "Fang Zhang, storage analyst for iHS said “The recovery of global HDD manufacturing has begun and will continue during each quarter of 2012. However, the recovery will be prolonged for at least two more quarters, as supply constraints keep shipments from climbing on an annual basis until third quarter. Meanwhile, HDD prices will remain inflated and inventories will continue to be depleted, showing that demand is exceeding supply. Supply and demand should return to balance by the end of the third quarter." http://www.kitguru.net/components...nd-floods/ So long story short.. I hope you are ready to hang on for a couple more months.

are there 5900rpm or 7200rpm?

I have an old Pentium D computer that will make its way to my father in the very near future. It will need a new hard drive as the current one is starting to click. Its from 06ish. 2 TB is overkill for him, but it seems that smaller hard drives aren't that much cheaper (why pay 85 for 500GB when 2 TB is 100?)
I'm not any sort of PC expert; is there any reason not to buy this drive? Last edited by HardFive; 03-14-2012 at 08:50 AM.. Reason: Not sure why it quoted someone... |

That being said, I've not been a fan of Seagate for quite a while now, but I do love my two HD204UI's. Paid $75 a piece for them last year, and I can wait for the prices to come back down. |

But the answer is neither, as according to http://lmgtfy.com/?q=HD204UI it is 5400rpm. Also, EcoGreen / eco-anything / green drives are generally slower speed drives. |
