That makes it a 2-step process instead of a single step like the current version. I hope there's going to be a preference box that makes it a 1-step.

There is an option to show fire deals regardless of setting.

If neutral shows everything, what's the importance of setting anything to "like"?

SD wouldn't "offend" any sponsors unless it lets its users actually choose which kinds of ads not to see. Ads and deals are separate.

Even if SD do let us choose ads, it still wouldn't affect it I don't think... Because look at a site like Livejournal... They even let users choose ad categories.

Attracting and retaining users is probably job number 1...

I like the preferences. There are some categories I will never buy, regardless of how good a deal it is. True story.
I also like that the listings in the categories I liked increased in quantity. Aside from seeing doubles of some listings, I like the change.
