I have the T3 with kit lens and the 50 f/1.8. I absolutly love my camera and it works excellent for taking photos of my 3 young kids. I agree that the 50mm fixed is a great buy, but I would suggest having the kit lens as well for a wider angle. I use both lens probably equally since there are just some shots I can't get with the fixed 50mm (it is pretty tight so you have to step way back or it will be too cropped) but the 50mm f/1.8 takes some excellent photos with amazng bokeh!
can you guys please suggest a good source to buy the 50mm f/1.8 lens? i cant find any deal on this lens! amazon has the USM model for about $140 bucks...is this lens really so expensive? i read some reviews on amazon like "this lens is amazing for the $70 price tag"
Do you guys think these will be coming down in price over the next 2 months with the release of the T4i?
Some people have said that cannon will actually bump up the price of the t3i when they release the t4i. The rationale being that if the t3i was 700$ and the t4i was 775$, people would be more inclined to purchase a t4i. The other scenario would be a 650$ t3i vs a marginally newer/ better 800$ t4i.
I made these numbers up but you get the idea. I think that the same thing happened to the t2i when the t3i was released. If anyone knows if im right or wrong, feel free to chime in.
Mummel, The 50mm 1.4 is the one to get... skip the 1.8 you will thank me down the road...
Especially when your outside the things you can capture in the lens that your eyes can't see..
Another lens to consider as your child comes and gets older is the Tamron B008 18-270mm lens... It is an excellent all around lens for the park and zoo...
don't forget a UV filter lens to protect what ever lens you buy... dropping your camera sucks and it happens...
I bought the T3i for the swivel screen the video is just an extra.. Not perfect but its there to capture those moments when it's needed...
I suggest investing in a good card like the lexar pro series.. Makes a huge difference.. I have 2 32gig cards... Super fast for me.. I noticed a huge difference over the "blue" card..
Write speeds as well as read speeds...
In my laptop using the 3.0 slot it scanned/read and copied 121 pictures @ 6-8 meg each in under a minute.. I can snap, snap, snap photos in the T3i with almost no pause and i did a good 10 or so in a row to hit that tiny under a second dump pause that the camera did with this card.. with the blue card.. that pause was like a good 5-6 seconds.
the blue card is a class 10 transend... which is fine in my other camera as that camera is a point and shoot and i noticed no difference putting the lexar in the PS camera..
anways raving rant over.. congratulations to the forth coming family addition and good luck with the photography...
