Got 1 today. Will go and price match later in the week. One good thing is that it has fingerprint reader also
![]() It looks nice for a laptop. Staples in Piscataway NJ refused to honor the outlet coupon. Why I chose it over the Dell: 4 Core vs. 2 Bigger HDD, Bigger Screen, Numeric KB, Fingerprint reader, Sound is gr8, seprate mic and headphone jacks (my official lenovo t420 has a single jack and that is driving me crazy )Q: How is a HP new computer 1 year warranty compared to Lenovo Outlet 1 year warranty? |

I got this unit last month in the previous promotion that got it down to about $430 after rebates.
It's pretty nice for the price. I'm running the Windows 8 Beta on it. Everything just worked installing over Windows 7 except the AMD/ATI video driver but they already have a Windows 8 version for that. I never thought I'd want a fingerprint sensor but signing into Windows with just a swipe of my finger is pretty cool. One interesting little deviation is that it came with a 750 GB hard drive instead of the 640 GB drive listed on the manifest. I guess there were supply problems and they figured nobody would complain about a silent upgrade. Makes me wish they'd been short on 2 GB SO-DIMMs and included two 4 GB units instead. Definitely a thumbs up deal, even if its an HP.
Keep in mind that HP = barely understandable indian tech support if something goes wrong, 1 month turn around times on repairs and the highest malfunction rate in the industry (25%). Great rebate Companies:
Patriot Memory (4myrebate.com): 6 Weeks Tiger Direct (4myrebate): 3 weeks Rain-X (in house): 3 weeks BAD BAD MAIL IN REBATE COMPANIES: Xigmatek 26 weeks, 14 emails, 2 phone calls (finally received) NZXT 21 weeks, 4 phone calls. Check that was finally received was dated 2 months earlier with a 90 day expiration on it, giving me about 25 days to cash it. Shady shady shady. |

I'm not 100% sold on this laptop. Bought it a couple weeks ago when they had the same promo, came out to $399 AR + tax.
Laptop #1 = broken straight out of the box. Would turn on but screen was blank. Adjusting the brightness didn't help. Exchanged in store for another one. Laptop #2 = Seems to be working fine, but screen likes to randomly dim when I'm working on it (I've disabled all power saving modes). The dimming effect is very minor, would be equivalent to turning the brightness down one notch and then back up again immediately. I suppose it's not something major that affects usability but I do get a headache when I'm looking at the screen for extended periods, maybe it's just me but the screen changing brightness all the time isn't exactly easy on the eyes. Already past the 14 day exchange period for staples, and I don't want to send it in and have to wait a month for a repair. Use caution when buying this. If you have any issues out of the box make sure you return it quickly. |
