Nice deal, but if you shoot on an APS-C sensor, it might be a little bit tight for a prime. I personally don't do a lot of shooting at 50mm (the equivalent of 75mm on a full-frame). I'd love a good deal on the 35mm DX prime, though

Beware. I have never seen an import or bargain premium brand arrive without something wrong with it usually cosmetic. I have bought a premium Nikkor from a reputable NYC store w/US warranty and received the item but with a scratch on the barrel touched-up with black paint. I had to write them a letter for them to exchange it for a new one. And, it happened similarly again, and again, and again, and again with other items. For that reason I will never buy from any NYC store. They just pick you for a sucker. PRETTY SLICK on their part!
I would not trust these people at all. Otherwise, if you don't mind a little gamble, and can tolerate the hassle of returning items (to who??), and reporting the transaction to your credit card company (or PayPal)... Most of the import stuff is just junk, just like trashpicked items; the item has value, but it's not worth the remanufacturing time for the manufacturer (like Nikon). Seiko does the same thing. So, the junk dealers get the items and tout them as new. Buy cheap, buy twice. Beware my friends. |

Great price on a 50mm G lens!
Common bodies that do not have a in-body AF motor: D40 D40X D60 D3000 D5000 D3100 D5100 Everything else (such as D90, D7000) can AF this cheaper lens. |

If you got no motor body, it is the lens in your bag. However, if you have motor body, u should get 1.8D or even 1.4D. It focus really fast because it is very light. U can sell the 1.8D on CL for $90-100 all day when u decide to upgrade. I got mine for $90 two years ago, n sold for $90 last month. I upgradr to Voigtlander 58mm f1.4. It is manual focus, but it is easy to do on D7000.

Most legit NYC store ever, not every NYC store is a ripoff.

Then there's B&H Photo , I bet whole bunch of ppl got ripped off there....not
Tons of SD'ers would attest to the legitimacy of these NYC stores. Yes it our $$ & we trust these stores, not the scam ones. Please research the previous sd's here about big name stores before generalizing on all stores. |

A. Think to yourself, "Haha, I beat the system!" B. Tell yourself, "Wait a minute, something fishy is going on here." Feel free to go to ANY photography forums or talk to ANY professional photographers and they will back up what I said. You will absolutely not be able to find any camera store that is more reputable than the New York stores like B&H or Adorama. Next time, instead of pinching pennies and falling for parlor tricks, try checking the authorized dealers list on the vendor's webpage. Amazing how much an ounce of common sense and rational thought can protect you. Also, Nikon doesn't send out less-than-spec products. Likely, what you dealt with was that the scam shop was selling you someone else's return. Stop spreading nonsense. You did the internet equivalent of buying a Rolex on a street corner from some guy in a trenchcoat. Just because that guy was in a certain city doesn't mean that the whole city is corrupt.

- You end up having the lens now, instead of not having the lens, and having to watch out for it. If you have the lens for 4 months longer, for example, that is 4 months of your time that you won't be spending part of your time watching out for the lens. Plus, the extra money that you pay is akin to "renting" the lens for 4 months, which is worth the slight increase in price. -This new lens comes with a 5 year warranty. That alone is worth the money you'd potentially save. As you can see from how long I've been here and how many posts I have, I love a great deal just as much as the next slickdealer. However, at a certain point, it's cheaper overall to just spend and be done with it. This is only a $220 lens. You'd save at most $40. Not worth your time and effort. |
