I wonder if the Multi-Tool come with the same set of accessories as the same non-combo Craftsman #17438 Multi-Tool[sears.com] which at $45 is also cheap by itself. The accessory set if purchased separately easily cost more than the full tool+accessory set+battery+charger.
This "sub-compact" drill/driver has a standard chuck that can hold round drill bits which is nice. Low-end drills from Makita, Bosch, and (my) Milwaukee M12, have quick-change chuck that are compact and convenient but can only hold hex bits and sometimes bits get stuck. Higher end drills with standard chucks tend to cost significantly more.
There are some reviews of poor reliability and broken retaining tabs on the Nextec 12V battery, but then it happens to many other brands too. Milwaukee M12 batteries made in Canada were known to have short lives but the ones made in China with Korea cells are reliable ... so much for Made in (North) America . All 5 batteries I've obtained (bundled or bought) in the 1.5 year are all China/Korea so I guess the bad ones are no longer being sold. I suspect that the early cells used couldn't withstand the high 5+C discharge current and the internal heat it generated -- these tools drain fresh batteries in 10~20 minutes if used heavily, after all.
Has anyone else been able to get $5.00 off of this item useing the "SAVEMORE" promotional code? I've tried with different fillers bringing the total over $50.00 and it says that it is applied, but the total remains the same.
This deal would be better for me than the Costco set or the other Sears set mentioned as I already have several batteries and other Nextec tools and lights. But it really depends on which tools and how many batteries you will need.
The "SAVEMORE" code not working is a deal breaker for me
Edit: I was at Sears to pick up the Craftsman anti-fatigue floor mat deal from Sunday night and took a look at this set. It appears from looking at the packaging that the only included attachment for the multi-tool is the sanding head. I'm going to revisit Costco and see what attachments are included. It seems like there were attachments with their's. For me that would make the Costco one the better bargain.
