FYI
This TV is on clearance at Magnolia Home Theater( inside Best Buy) for $1799 open box ones 10-15% less than that I have to say though...the picture on this TV is not phenomenal...black levels are not that great..and as I was from right to left viewing the TV ..the color change was pretty large I am not a huge fan of passive 3D...I have heard its gotten better and the images are now more sharp than they were due to firmware upgrades Though I would make no choice on a Tv just because of its 3D capability that I might use 2-3% of the time I think I would still go with a Panasonic or Samsung plasma in this size( with or without 3D) and be happier...at this price point That whole off angle color shift is an issue to me.. Love the passive 3D. Blows away any active 3D set I've seen, hands down. Wasn't even interested in 3D until I saw the passive 3D. You really don't notice the resolution decrease to 540p (for 1080p content) because your brain see's 540 for one 3D field in one eye and 540p for the other 3D field in the other eye, and basically sums them together. And the 2D-to-3D conversion on this HDTV is awesome. Off-angle viewing is not a concern for us. Black levels are great, if the TV is setup properly...sure, not as good as plasma, but there are other pros for this TV that compensate for that. Probably the biggest concern for us is the glossy screen...we have one window that is behind us to the right, though it has a shade that we close at night anyways. For sub-$2,000 (or even sub-$1,800 as your post suggests), those price points are a killer deal for a 65" LED/LCD TV, even without the 3D. -Homie

First off... This TV is not anywhere near the picture quality of several other models in 2D which is what you will be watching 95% of the time anyway Black levels are not great and off angle viewing is subpar 2D to 3D conversion on anything( active or passive) doesnt look good...it just looks fake I still say...buy a plasma..if you need this price point The bottom end Panny or Sammy plasma will spank this TV all day long and for even less money |

I guess you don't know me well enough to state so absolutely that I will be watching 2D 95% of the time, so don't fill us with garbage statistics that you have no basis to represent for me or anyone else. Don't like 2D-to-3D, fine, don't buy it. Or are you jealous that what you already bought doesn't have it. What looks fake to you may look fine to somebody else. Sorry you probably resent your purchase if you don't like or have these features. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, as I am to my opinion. Your observations are not absolute for everyone, they are simply your observations and opinions, as mine are mine. To say that the picture quality in 2D is not anywhere near that of several other 2D models is hogwash at worst, and your own opinion at best. Interestingly, we disagree on all points. It's pretty obvious that most folks, when they discuss things like this, are justifying their purchase in many ways. Hope you enjoy your TV. As they say, YMMV. Personally, I think this LG 65LW6500 blows away any plasma at this price point on many levels, some of which were important to me. On most plasmas, I see flickering. Do they have great black levels, sure, the best of any technology. But that's not important to me because they vary widely in transmission anyways, so in most cases, they've already been compromised by what the Director wanted. Enjoy your TV. I'll enjoy my purchase. Nobody is 100% correct in their opinion, it's very subjective when buying a TV. No technology is absolutely superior. And what appeals to some folks may or may not appeal to others. I encourage everyone who is in the market to take our opinions under advisement and to buy what they like and what looks good to them. Buy what you like...not what others tell you that you must have! I am not justifying anything....and what does "they vary widely in transmission mean"?...and black level is not important you ?....ok..LOL For the record I have a 8000 series Samsung plasma..I love it in both 2d and 3D The only other TV I was considering at the time was the Panasonic VT In regards to LED models I like the full backlit ones...they are much better than the edge lit The Sony 929 and the new Elite models from Sharp are both excellent TV's I actually own an LG 8500 full array back lit and a edge lit Samsung as well There is no comparison to the depth of the picture of a full array unit vs an edge lit The uneven levels of color in dark scenes..the blk levels and the off angle viewing is not my cup of tea on the edge lit TV's As I said before..if I have to go edge lit..it would be a Samsung Check out their 8000 series LED...it completely blows away this TV...and yes it is considerably more expensive as it should be You might out the past few years TV ratings from a few websites...and see what stacked where But like you say..to each their own I dont see flickering on a plasma..I am not sure which particular TV you were looking at Look at the Samsung 8000 or Panasonic VT..perhaps you will get a better visual from them Both excellent 3D performers as well...though I would make no buying decision based on 3D On the other hand when I looked at the that LG in the Magnolia showroom the other day...the black levels and off angle viewing were both poor..as was the sharpness of the picture I didnt even look at the 3D....why would I? Other than their full array LED models and their high end plasmas..I am not a fan of LG They are always less expensive...and heck Frys has blowout prices on them almost every week...which I am sure you know from reports on this site The actually deal..IMO..near this size in an LG was their top end PZ950 in the 60" that Frys has for $1099 Its not up there with the Samsung 8000 or Panasonic VT...but it is also about30-40% less BTW...I think this TV is absolutely worth the $1600( open box) or $1799 in a box price that BB is asking for it If you just need a big 3D capable TV on the cheap..and are not anal about a few things...its a great deal and FYI...there is a $50 off coupon open box TV's in Magnolia as well on the website Last edited by turnne; 04-01-2012 at 05:53 AM.. |

TigerDirect.com deal for the 65LW6500 is back on, as of now. Same link and coupon code as OP. Not sure when it expires. Coupon code gets entered on the "Checkout" page (scroll down on that page).
Wish Amazon would match this price already so I don't have to pay sales tax. I hate paying taxes. |
