New high-yield online savings account: TIAA Direct

For those interested, there's a new online bank called TIAA Direct [tiaadirect.com]. It's a branch of the fantastic organization that helps teachers save and invest for their retirement.

Their current APY on their savings account is 1.25%.

They are a full-fledged bank and offer a full array of financial services such as mortgages, refis, HELOCs, checking accounts, CDs, and money markets.

Careful, some banks will hard pull for opening either Checking or Savings. More common in Checking accounts though.

Anyway, that rate will probably come dropping down soon once members start joining.

I agree stock market is not for everyone I don't understand it and I feel its to risky. I rather make a little than either gain a lot or lose it all.

I think if that interest percentage stays that high would be very good for an easy investment.

I honestly dont even have enough "savings" to make it worth it... I'm just dumping everything into retirement hoping that when i'm 60 I'll have enough to buy a 50 ft boat and retire on it.
